Scotland 1 v USA 1! So Much For 7th Best Team In World!

USA are no where near as good as some of the teams they are ranked better than.

They'll fail miserably at the World Cup next year!

sickkittens 11-12-2005 11:50 AM

2 goals in 1 game. Must have been exciting.

xNetworx 11-12-2005 11:50 AM

soccer is fucking boring

Funny it was.

USA are a poor team.

And? Do you think Americans as a whole could give a shit?

baddog 11-12-2005 11:52 AM

7th best is the same as 1500th best. Once you get below #1, does it really matter?

swoop 11-12-2005 11:52 AM

ughh Jackass, this wasn't the full team for either Scotland or the USA...ever hear of a friendly game where you plug in players to see who can earn a spot on the WC team?

Well, I guess the 100 soccer players care, other than them . . . .nope.

A squad of players is the best players in your country to play. Ok so neither teams played their best 11 but its still the best USA has to offer.

ok, so for example all National team players aren't available we have to put in only college players with ZERO national experience and we lost or tied you would say the #7 ranking wasn't valid?

All of these friendly games don't mean a thing except to get looks at young players. Wait until next summer to make a judgement

Ross, I love you bro, but this statement is off the mark. What you have to realize is that they were missing a TON of starters.

Landon Donovan, Claudio Reyna, Oguchi Onyewu, John O'Brien, Brian McBride, Frankie Hedjuk and Pablo Mastroeni. These are all possible starters for the US. You will not see many of the players who were on the field today. Some were earning their first caps. Kudos, to coach Bruce Arena for giving the yougin's a look.

This really shows the depth of the US squad. I guarantee, we will have a wonderful World Cup. Mark my words.

My whole point....Even with several players out the USA should be wiping the floor with Scotland. They didn't, they were bad.

Poppy, I'm having fun and messing with everyone. I love how you guys love everything about the US.

I'm a Scotsman, USA were poor against Scotland today. :)

pocketkangaroo 11-12-2005 12:51 PM

USA hardly played anyone who will even be playing in the World Cup. Its like saying the Indianapolis Colts are shitty because they lost their 2nd preseason game. Comments like that show a lack of sports knowledge.

Either way, no one gives a shit about soccer in the US. It is amazing that we are #7.

Verbal Kint 11-12-2005 01:03 PM

The FIFA ranking suck. It doesn't give a true picture of the strength of the teams.

Look at the top 21
Brazil
Netherlands
Czech Republic
Argentina
France
Mexico
USA
Spain
England
Portugal
Turkey
Italy
Sweden
Denmark
Germany
Japan
Uruguay
Greece
Croatia
Costa Rica
Iran

Mexico, USA and Costa Rica in the top 20??? USA and Mexico 7 and 6.
All 3 teams would have a very hard time qualifiying if they had to play the European qualification.
Iran is a joke and they are ranked 21?
I am ready to bet that neither USA, Mexico or Costa Rica will make it to the quater finals at the world cup.

You wouldn't be if you had to qualify in the Euro groups.

USA/Netherlands in the World Cup Final.

You mean like the US did in 2002? Bowing out to Germany, although IMO deserved to win. :321GFY

Lee 11-12-2005 04:17 PM

Hmm, I lost money by backing the US. I usually dont bet on friendlies but I felt there was mileage in this.

On a side note, I once scored a great result by getting Morocco at 5/1 to beat Scotland in a World Cup game because British bookies were blinded by not taking johnny foreigner too seriously despite rankings and other indicators pointing to the result. Morocco trounced them 3-0 I believe and we had a good night out ;)

Tipsy 11-12-2005 04:21 PM

It really isn't much of a boast. As has been pointed out the rankings are a long way from reality and neither team (especially the USA) fielded a full suad of top players.

I'll give ya that one buddy. USA were very unlucky on the day.

Corleone 11-13-2005 02:33 PM

"USA
Spain
England
Portugal
Turkey
Italy"

wtf? usa never won anything but they're above england / italy?

weird rankings

Chris E 11-13-2005 03:24 PM

US has Freddy Adu on the way though! Let's be honest here too... Americans generally (I'll give you basketball at a push) don't like sports where they might not be #1. Thus all their "World Series" involve... well, just America.

PixeLs 11-13-2005 07:20 PM

I'd go for NBA games than this...
