Car Heater Eliminates Idle Time

Does anyone have one of these?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's getting to be that time of year when the garage-less must trudge outside extra early to start the car to defrost the windows. Enter the Blue Heat, a remotely controlled car heater that doesn't require running the engine.

According to Webasto, the device heats the coolant and sends it to the heat exchanger, which then warms the car. The heater works by remote or can be set on a timer, and burns one- eighth of the fuel required by running the engine.

Sounds like a nice idea that should be incorporated into high-end vehicles (I remember Audi offering something similar), but even the environmentally-concerned may have a tough time forking over $1,595 for this professionally installed option.

A block heater and a remote starter ... both are required winter gear here in Quebec

total cost about $300

that seems a bit costly, well worth it I'm sure though! living in Canada all your life makes you realize items like that are priceless LOL

Have a remote starter, but I want to be able to call the car up and schedule the startup, heat or AC.

My Mercedes has a feature that keeps the car heated in the winter after you turn it off, it uses the residual heat of the engine and a low-speed fan and keeps the car toasty for my return. Kind of useless now that i'm in FL though.

For those people living where the winters are so cold that engines freeze overnight, I think this is a great idea. But since I live in Vancouver, that kind of thing wouldn't be nearly as useful here.
