If a link is embedded in javascript on a page can SE crawlers see the link?

It depends how you embed it. You could encode the link and use javascript to decode it and write it as a link. Then the search engine spiders would not see/crawl it. But who knows how a spider might react to a bunch of mixed up javascript too.
