Whats the best 5 mp camera out right now?

I am in need of a 5mp camera to list some things on ebay and dont want something to pricey so what would be the best bang for the buck?

Peaches 11-23-2005 10:49 PM

I just ordered a Canon SD450. I haven't received it yet but it got a lot of great reviews :)

If I were lookin' for a good camera to mainly shoot stuff for ebay ads, I'd likely consider picking up an older dslr like the Olympus E10 (4.1mP). $207.00

BestBuy has the Olympus FE-110 on sale. Newest model 5MP point-and-shoot, flash, zoom, etc. I grabbed one for $179.99 last week. :)

sample pic (downsized, native format is like 2560x1920)

Canon A610 http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/spec...canon_a610.asp

or

Panasonic http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/spec...nic_dmcfz5.asp

man the E-10 has come down in price. I bought mine when it was like $1,900, I still have it and its what I use. Great camera.

Ditto here. Goin' on 3 years use and it still shoots a tremendous pic. That's what I had in mind earlier when suggesting it.

Peaches 11-23-2005 11:21 PM

Yeah, I forgot to add that one of the biggest criteria for me was small size which is why I picked the one I did. Some of the larger ones are probably less expensive :)

Shoots a nice pic, no doubt there. But its still just a point-'n-shoot. For a few bucks more he could go with a full dslr with all the handy manual settings and options a PnS doesn't have. That way, if he wants to shoot more than just ebay pics, he's got a versatile camera for other stuff.

best advice in this thread if you are looking for best image quality for lowest price.

the compacts cannot shoot in low light like the E10.

venus 11-23-2005 11:52 PM

Here is a pic I took of my dog the other day with the E10, I was messing with it trying to make the background blur and the object (my dog) in focus
I think it turned out pretty good.

Check this one out:

Less than an inch thick. Easy to carry around. Great price. Good quality.

Here's a CNet Review (check out what the camera owners wrote too):

He is my little french bulldog, he turns 6 next month, his life is almost half over..... I would be lost if something ever happened to him.

Well - that's a beautiful shot. I used to shoot with an E10 and I know from experience blurring the background out is a pain in the ass with camera.

Good job :thumbsup

venus 11-24-2005 12:15 AM

thats good color, how do you get the background black and the subject in such good color?

The studio's entirely blacked out - walls and ceiling.

A realty agent's nightmare :winkwink:

I just jumped into an pre-owned E-10 today for $339 (+ tax/battery/memory card). Bought it from a reuptable storefront retail shop with a 90-day warranty.

Doing 2 photoshoots with it this weekend, including with a cute 36E shorty.

Cool. Post a few shots later if inclined...I wouldn't mind checkin' them out.

The e10 is damn rugged, so I wouldn't hesitate pickin' up a pre-owned one myself. I dropped mine about 30' down a rocky slope in the Niagara gorge about two years back during a fall. Shattered the flash housing and rotary dial on top, and put a few good scuffs in the body, but luckily the lens didn't shatter. Retrieved it at the bottom of a dry, rocky riverbed...cleaned it up, and it worked fine (even the flash still fired).

It conked out about 6 months later so I took it in to an Olympus shop in Toronto and they rebuilt it entirely back to factory spec (and upgraded the firmware to include the pixel remap function). The rebuild cost $1,100 - but insurance picked up the tab.

Still works like a charm today. And I'm up to 80k shots with it.
