I had a book called the Internet Yellow Pages that listed almost every site out there (a few web, but mostly newsgroups, ftp sites, gopher archives, and archie lists... It had an "X Rated Resources" section I used to read while waiting for a chance to get on the computer when my parents were out.

There wasn't even a web when I first got on the Net.

i think the first thing i looked up was the nasa page for some reason, dunno why :p porn used to get off BBS's also, internet cost like $10 a hour back when i first started usin it, fuck that.

Usenet was my first stop on the net back in the mid-90s. The ISP supplied Nutscrape Navigator on a couple of 3.25 floppies and it didn't decode the binaries back then - had to run them through a separate uunecode app.

My next stop was Yahoo search and went from there to SanFrancisco Dungeon website (still viewable on Wayback Machine).

Nope, when I first went online... with my 14.4 modem, webpages were a tad... uhm... well, even though they were mostly text, I just couldn't stand waiting for Netscape 1.0 to load them.

So I stuck to chat rooms for the first little bit. Get it loaded and presto... no more wait times. Just chat away with people.

I was on-line for about 5 years before consumers could easilly get internet access.

Back then we connected to Bulletin Boards that interconnected. In Toronto Canada Remote Systems was one of the biggest backbones.

Their adult sections had lots of porn pics. Scanned from magazines. Frightening amount of kiddie porn and beasty stuff.

At 14.4 dial-up video was not even thought about.

A good batch download would fill up a 3.5" floppy disk!
