Are variables in links bad for SEO?

I was just wondering if variables in the URL (index.php?page=01) are bad for search engine listings?

Thanks! I hope I can switch some stuff over to aspx soon. The whole ASP.NET system just seems so much more user/browser friendly.

Well when it seems to compile certain elements when I build the pages and not each time the page is pulled. Since I don?t access a DB in the case... it is all static content.

Ah, and I love the resource files. They are super for making the website available in multiple languages, quickly and easy... I just love it.
