i just got a new sony viao direct from sony and they done fucked up and gave me a dvd-rw instead of a cd-rw (at no extra cost)... anyone know if dvd-rw's can write to cd-rws (since i have a whole stack of them here i don't want to goto waste.) and anyone know the going price for dvd-rw's ...thanks :Graucho

are you sure it writes DVD's?

Mine has a DVD/Cd Burner.. but it doesn't burn DVD's only CD.. heh

well.. that's what i thought at first, but on the drive it says DVD R/RW and i have a manual that came with the computer entitled 'Information about dvd recording' and they also gave me dvd recording software...

seems like a cool program, but the sound cut out on me when my ICQ started knocking... how do i get the sounds back to the DVD?

Vaio notebooks suck. Sure they look pretty on the outside, but the graphics chipsets on them tend to suck compared to the graphics chipsets on dells and some toshibas.

I myself only go with dell notebooks.

I suspect your laptop has Windows XP. Windows XP knows how to do a lot of stuff all on its own without application programs. Have you popped a DVD in yet to see what happens?
