The "Diplomat" thing sends off a red flag for me. Although, I do consider myself the Canadian Diplomat of drinking Rye and acting like an idiot...but that's more of a self proclaimed title.

But everything else looks solid.

However, if she asks you to send her $20,000 and she will buy the car for $40,000, I would tell her to look somewhere else.

GTS Mark 12-10-2005 06:27 AM

LOL! Yep I have heard of that I will pay you $5,000 extra for shipping scam.

definite scam. happened to me 2 years ago when i listed my audi.
got an email supposedly from someone in the UK saying that they were the purchasing agent for clients. it was one of their clients daughters graduation present. they sent me a check for 5k over my asking price. i was to let the shipping company come pick up my car, sign over the title once i had received the check. i was also supposed to give the driver the difference in the check amount and asking price.

the whole part about them sending me a check for more than the asking price was a little strange and raised some flags. luckily i mentioned it to my neighbor and said not to let the car go anywhere until the check had cleared. sure enough, i deposited the check and it came back counterfeit.

if it wasn't for him, i could have turned my car and title over to a bunch of scammers and there probably wasn't much i could have done about it.

scams are getting more and more creative every day.

i am running into the same thing while trying to sell my vw bug

Quagmire 12-10-2005 08:04 AM

Any time someone is offering you more than the asking price on a used car that isn't a classic, exotic, etc its a scam. especially when you need to hand back some cash to a driver or something like that is involved.

Never mind the fact that the stupid twat couldn't be bothered to capitalise the C in her name. I got hit with an email a lot like that when I was getting rid of my GTP.

Basic_man 12-10-2005 08:07 AM

Pretty strange.. but why you wouldn't answer ? :D

Looks too good to be true

Sounds like a scam. No problem in sharing any of the info asked just make sure you have the money in your hand before you turn in the car.

You were gonna hand over the title w/o verifying the funds?

You should stop smoking weed, it kills ya brain cells son.

Mark,

Make them send you the money via wire transfer then ship the car! make sure they pay shipping freight charges or have them pick it up.

You can give it to me your biz partner hehe

pornguy 12-10-2005 02:49 PM

Unless this diplomat is going to take the car out of the country, then they DONT buy used cars.

nexcom28 12-10-2005 02:51 PM

I will agree with everyone else and say SCAM. I saw this in the paper just a few days ago..

Peaches 12-10-2005 02:52 PM

It's a huge scam and has been around for at least 4 years. You end up with a worthless piece of paper - a fake certified check.

Jarmusch 12-10-2005 02:52 PM

The bad engrish gives it away, it's scam alright.

GTS Mark 12-10-2005 03:23 PM

BTW I sold the car today and not to this joker hehe.

Buyer is coming to pick up the car with certified cheque on Tuesday :)

Anyone who sends you an email with a totally english name but writes like it is their fourth language is scamming you. I didn't even have to read the MEANING of the email, just the way it was written.

You should also never make a business deal with someone using free email accounts. Sorry to those people using gmail or whatever for business, but it is the equivilant to dealing with someone who works out of the back of a rented truck. They can fold up and leave town faster than you can imagine.

Ignore the words, look at the situation... this one has scam all over it.

A few years ago I was looking to buy a fairly expensive camera on ebay. There were a number of them for sale. One of them was offered with a buyit now price that was about 15-20% below market price. I fired them off an email, the buyer showed as being in the US. The reply came back from a russian free host email.

You know exactly who I didn't buy a camera from that day.

This scam could be an easy snare for the police. As long as the mark is alert to it being a scam.

Call the police.

When you get the check they can verify if it is fake in minutes. Should be a simple phone call.

Then arrest the bastard who comes for the car.

SmokeyTheBear 12-10-2005 05:10 PM

Easy scam to spot..

#1 Bad engrish
#2 yahoo email
#3 google has never heard of their business

Corleone 12-10-2005 05:36 PM

must be a big company if they're using free yahoo mails :D

SleazyDream 12-10-2005 07:13 PM

send the pics and stats - if they wire the money to you - sell it. some people from different cultures don't react the same as us. if they want anything money wise weird or risky to you - fuck em

slapass 12-10-2005 07:21 PM

sickkittens 12-10-2005 07:42 PM

It's a scam. That's not uncommon w/ Autotrader by the way. My brother recently got the same thing.

They'll do the Nigeriam scam next (they'll send $20k on a $16k car and ask for a $4k money order to be returned)

Makingcoin 12-10-2005 11:18 PM

DH car is pimp! :P

Someone working for a large company would probably speak proper english and use an email address that is NOT from yahoo. ;-)

Glad you sold youur car to someone that sounds a lot more legit :thumbsup
