$12,683.24 Holiday Bonus?
About 2 months ago I received a letter which I basically forgot about informing me of a Class Action Lawsuit against the Developers and sub-contractors that built 130 homes in my neighborhood known as the "Stonecrest" Development.
I meant to read through it but totally forgot about it until today when an attorney representing the homeowners knocked on my door. It seems that they used water resistant "backer boards" behind the tiles in 2 of the 3 shower walls in my home. They were supposed to use waterPROOF :error As I was informed today, it seems that they have reached a settlement of $1.75 million. She gave me all the paper work to sign so that my home is included in the claim which of course i read through and gladly did. Based on the "Statute of Limitations Categories", of which there were 6 - I'm in Category 1 - and will receive the highest amount Hopefully I'll get the check shortly :weihnacht BTW - the lawyers get $577.5K out of the $1.75 million!!!!!!!!!!!!! :censored |

One of the issues the Developers had brought up was the statute of limitations. Considering when the homes were built it may have gone in their favor but the legal fees might have out weighed their ultimate "victory". Who knows? AND - as we know laywers are the biggest winners in most of these cases anyway! :winkwink: BUT - We've been talking about remodeling these 2 bathrooms anyway so either we use the money for that or 4 months of mortgage payments :thumbsup Either way - I'll believe it when the check is cashed. Until then I'll forget about it and enjoy the holidays. :xmas-smil |

Glad you get some coin, but FUCK the lawyers.
|
My house was built before it was code to have backerboard at all. My shower tiles are glued directly onto sheetrock and it has been a fucking nightmare. You should definitely replace the showers. I had a water leak that leaked onto my kitchen ceiling, ahhhhh!

Very nice, grats to you man :)

ho ho fucking ho!
;) gotta love a big ole bonus ;) |
hmm i dont know why everyone is congratulating you, it might seem like a bonus but thats not alot.. It will cover the cost of replacement of the bathrooms but if you have existing damage it prob wont cover the cost to replace that, like if those backboard cause leaks to the structure that has rotted out from water your screwed and could have to replace the whole shebang at some point because of a water problem. i have seen it happen.. its to bad you couldnt have opted out and sued individually , you might get more..
hopefully you have no damage and you get 3 new bathrooms and some dom to drink .. :thumbsup |
That is always the nicest way to get paid.
And lawyers suck major ass. |
We received a similar settlement resulting from a suit witrh out home developers as well. It was about $17k. Sounds like your check is on the way Jonathan.
Congrats... Mitch |

Again, we've been talking about remodeling BOTH bathrooms - upstairs will probably run 20 - 25K alone because the "Master BR" is pretty huge ... so, regardless if any damage was done it would HAVE TO be addressed. :2 cents: Since that's the case ... it's a bonus. What remains to be seen is WHEN we'll do it :winkwink: |
