I think eating out is a waste of time.

It takes 10-25 minutes to drive to the restaurant location. It takes 5-20 minutes to be seated. It takes 5-15 minutes to place order. It takes 20-40 minutes for food to be delivered. It takes 15-30 minutes to eat. It takes 5-10 minutes to receive bill and pay. It takes 10-25 minutes to return home. Full trip, in short, is slightly over an hour.

Don't get me wrong, I really do enjoy eating out every now and then, but I think doing it daily would get under my skin. Just too much sitting around doing nothing. I have a fantastic seafood place by my house that I'm usually in and out of within 45 minutes, so I do go there quite often, but overall it just seems like a waste of time.

Am I the only one or do some of you agree?

Bluewire Ross 12-19-2005 12:05 AM

Yes, I agree that eating out daily is too much. A home cook meal is a good treat at any given time.

European Lee 12-19-2005 12:07 AM

We have the occasional week where we wont eat out every day, for the most part though, its actually a convenience for us to eat out all the time.

No cooking, no cleaning up, no having to go grocery shopping each week.

The time spent actually speaking over dinner is well worth the money spent on the meal to us.

Regards,

Lee

And here I was...thinking this thread was going to be about pussy....

Hell Puppy 12-19-2005 12:09 AM

Depends on your lifestyle. If you're single and do not enjoy cooking, eating out is more convenient.

nofx 12-19-2005 12:12 AM

also factor in gas money used to get to and from said restaurant

webgurl 12-19-2005 12:13 AM

how does different food take longer to eat? i eat a lot faster so even 15-30 minutes is a lot for me. unless im eating crab legs or something that requires extra work.

PixeLs 12-19-2005 12:34 AM

It eats up not just your time but also your money... You'll still save money you just dine in instead of eating out. :)

potter 12-19-2005 12:35 AM

why do you think fast food is so popular?

Because almost 70% of all Americans are obese and have no clue how to look after their bodies.

Last week I was at this place... had filet mignon, lobster tail, and shrimp. I was finished eating in 20 minutes max.

Don't be so grumpy.

I'd have to agree with that. Besides, if I cook and stay at home, I'm still trying to work rather than enjoy the moment and the food. Getting out of the house allows me to be somewhere I can just concentrate on good food and good company.

Stallion 12-19-2005 01:35 PM

Plus when you got 4 kids like me, its a pain in the ass trying to make sure they behave themselves and don't disturb everyone else.. lol

iwantchixx 12-19-2005 02:09 PM

i find that eating out tends to be a dissapointment for me a lot. It's never as good as I thought the meal would be.

SMG 12-19-2005 02:18 PM

then just order pizza ... no driving there, no waiting because you can do it ahead of time and do whatever while it's on the way, no need to be seated, and you can do whatever you want with it :D

And yes, I too thought this was about pussy when I looked O_o

Nismo 12-19-2005 02:22 PM

What about making threads about how much of a waste of time it is? Isn't it a bit redundant?

Tricksy 12-19-2005 02:23 PM

My b/f is a great cook that's why we usually eat at home ;-)

jerzeemedia 12-19-2005 02:24 PM

Let me tell ya something about going out to eat frequently which I'm sure you already know..you gain...a lot...yeah it depends on what you eat, but who the hell goes out to eat to order a salad that's priced at 4x what you can pay for the ingredients in the supermarket. Just my .02

CDSmith 12-19-2005 02:26 PM

Ordering in is often more conventient, but dining out is nice for an excuse to get out of the house and let someone else do the cooking and the serving AND the cleanup. That's where the time-saving factor comes into it -- cooking, serving, and cleanup.

EroticySteve 12-19-2005 02:39 PM

I prefer to cook at home. If i eat something at a Restaurant I can replicate it at home with easy. My culinary skills are top notch. As a chef I'm a stand up guy.

BaldBastard 12-19-2005 02:58 PM

I'd eat out every night if I could, and I was a Chef for 18 years :))

Here in Sydney I have noticed that mains have jumped in price in the last year from the 25-$35 bracket to 35-$55, starters are going for the $20-30 mark, top it off with a nice bottle of wine or two and I'm looking at 2-$300 just for me and the wife to go out, and thats just a standard resturant, start going somewhere really good and expect to have a $500-1000 bill for 2.

Trax 12-19-2005 02:58 PM

for me eating out is something special
wanna keep it that way
doing it daily would ruin it for me

Holly 12-19-2005 03:27 PM

Every meal I eat out is one more meal I don't have to cook.

And since I usually cook an average of 2 a day, I love it when I get to go somewhere and have someone serve me. I don't even care how long it takes.

Screaming 12-19-2005 03:35 PM

Right, but do you want to cook at home?

tristan_D 12-19-2005 05:43 PM

its good to have variations. although I enjoy home cooked meals, I also love going out and trying different restaurants

seeric 12-19-2005 05:49 PM

i hate waiting at p.f. changs. if i cant get a reservation there, i don't go. sometimes the wait is like 2 hours and people sit around for it too.

I'm a total food snob and am usuall disappointed with restaurant food. Nothing beats a good homemade meal. I'm lazy and don't really like cooking but I'd much, much rather take the time to cook at home than eat the crap served in most restaurants.

I grew up with an old fashioned Italian mom that is a fantastic cook. She cooks better than all her Italian friends and even her family back in Italy. Plus I lived at home with her till I was 26 so I'm overly used to good homemade meals.

You'll RARELY if ever see me order pasta in a restaurant. Pasta is by far my favorite food and I rarely can find a restaurant that has any decent pasta dishes. The sauces always suck ass and I can tell they come from a can, LOL.
