Former Waffle House Cook Charged With Poisoning Homeless Man

Henry County Police say 19-year-old Quinton Wilson dared man to drink a bizarre concoction that included industrial strength dishwashing detergent.

Atlanta, GA -- Henry County Police have filed new and more serious charges against a former Waffle House employee accused of poisoning a homeless man.

Family members say 50-year-old Rex Leo is in critical condition after drinking a concoction that included industrial strength dishwashing detergent.

Leo was homeless and, according his brother, Bob Leo, hooked on alcohol.

"He was trying to get his life back together. He was trying very hard. Apparently he wasn't able to. He seemed to be turning the corner, and then this happened," Bob said.

At a Henry County Waffle House, Henry County Police say, a cook, 19-year-old Quinton Wilson, dared the homeless man to drink a bizarre concoction.

"There were several different ingredients, possibly some Ivory soap. The main ingredient was some sort of machine dishwasher or dishwashing detergent," said Henry County Police Lt. Jason Bolton.

The potion sent Rex to the hospital.

As he was placed in the ambulance, Rex told paramedics that he had been offered what Wilson called a Christmas milkshake. Since he didn't know what was in it, Rex initially refused the drink.

But then, according to the police report, Wilson offered Leo $5.

Wilson was initially charged with reckless conduct, but now police have added a more serious felony charge of aggravated battery. That's because Rex is at Henry Medical Center in critical condition. He is unconscious, and according to family members, near death.

"If he survives this, he'll never be the same," said Bob Leo. "If he survives."

Wilson was fired from his job at the Waffle House after the incident. If he is convicted on the felony charge, he could be sentenced to as much as 20 years in prison.

"I hope he gets the max. I hope he gets the max for what he's done to my brother," Bob said.

After missing his initial court hearing on Friday morning, Wilson could be re-arrested and taken back to the Henry County Jail. If Rex dies, Wilson could also be charged with voluntary manslaughter.

I thought that was just heartless. He needs to spend more then Christmas behind bars. But then again the report mentioned some family members. Why is this guy homeless if he has family.

I mean could you let your dad be homeless and sleep in the streets?

He's definitely wrong and dumb for offering such drink to a homeless man. Insensitive too.

That being said, it's a two way street. The homeless guy sure wasn't too bright about it. After all, don't you think there must be something wrong with the drink when offered any amount of money to drink it? That thing about not accepting candy from strangers applies to grown ups too.

some people really don't care to some homeless man.

I never understand why the professions of the guy who did it is mentioned.
Like that's going to make a big difference...

I guess one could say that if you're hungry enough or need your bottle you'd be willing to do anything for it huh?
