To quit cigarette smoking is so fucking hard!

I know this came up on this board time and time again and that's because it's just so fucking hard to quit cigarette smoking. I'm 23 years old I've been an off and on smoker since 14. Now it's been six steady years that I've smoked. I've quit for 4 months before and that's the longest. I've used smoke away, the patch and the gum. All those help in their own way. Smoke away doesnt last long enough but it helps if you start by taking the pills at night. You wake up and you don't crave it. The patch worked and it helped me quit for 4 months but I got a lot of minor chest pains when I had it on. Then I got drunk one night and lit up a cigarette. The cigarette did taste like shit although I still smoked it. I am going on the patch again because I hate cigarettes. I'm the type of smoker that says it tastes and smells like shit yet I still do it. Shitty. It's also time to get my teeth whitened.

Try ZeroNicotine :Graucho

Thurbs 12-21-2005 11:31 AM

agreed .. ive tried before, gone like three months, then I remind myself I like to smoke cigs and smoke again.

but sometimes I think, maybe the nicotine has really gotten me and is making me think I like to smoke.

Yeah I feel the same way I think nicotine reverses your path of thinking making you believe you want to smoke. It could be that physically you like to hold a cig too.

Checkout this book called "The easy way to stop smoking". It didn't work 100% for me, but I am on my 2nd read of it and I think this is the time. It really changes the way you think about cigs even if it doesn't get you to quit.

Seeing as you already know that you don't actually "like" cigs, it might be a great thing for you.

Anyway, it has helped more people I know quit than the patch or any other quit-smoking aide, so i do highly recommend it.

PS: I know, I know, how can a book help you quit smoking if you're really addicted? I thought the same thing, but even though i didn't successfully quit after reading it the first time, I DO see completely how it can help you change the way you think about cigs in the proper way.

Hard? Hard is having to see the people that care about you, watch you die after you're diagnosed with lung cancer.

Fuck the want, fuck the assholes willing to hook people to lethal products to make a buck, don't be their slave. :disgust

- I'm 27, I was 10 year smoker, I quit day 1 of florida internext 2003, my mom still smokes, my dad smoked until he died of cancer, my sister still smokes.

MetaMan 12-21-2005 11:50 AM

How about some willpower? you have to want to fully quit to do it.

cold turkey is the best way. just stop, i also know some people who started to smoke cigars like colts, they smoke less of them and slowly break the habit of having something in your hand to smoke, and eventually quit it all.

Yeah I know! I saw my aunt die of lung cancer from smoking. Its when you really see this and you're like 'oh shit' I can't believe what Im seeing. But the craving just take over your body. I will once and for all quit.

When I quit cold turkey I am not the best person to be around. I can't control my emotions. I want to lash out at the world for nothing. I really get angry. I do agree this is probably the best way to quit though. So now it's either the patch or jawanda referred to a book that I should read while I quit cold turkey. I definitely want to quit it's getting to that point already.

the author's name is Allen Carr. I don't think there's more than one with this title.

Here's a link to it at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...books&n=507846
