Found this doing a search a few mins ago....a great pic of the ceremony where his ashes were shot hundreds of feet into the air & distributed amongst the mountain range. All paid for by his homeboy Johnny Depp, 2.5mill apparently.

he started an entirely new form of writing/journalism called "gonzo"

plus he was instrumental in the anti-nixon movement

not only that he wrote several amazing books...such as "Hells Angels" where he actually infiltrated the hells angels, wrote all about them, & towards the end was almost beaten to death by them
