Thanks Monday Night Football, For all the Memories.......
MNF on ABC fades into history, and goes into that good night. Thanks for the thrills and whatnot, and all the football memories.

That's all she wrote..36 years gone
|
Really is a sad day..... MNF on "pay" TV. :disgust
At least Sunday night football will become free to the masses. |
Interesting fact.
Jets played the first MNF game and lost 31-21 Played the last one on ABC and lost 31-21 |
ESPN is basic cable here. Don't even need a box to get it.
Advertisers don't care for people without cable I guess. |

Sad to see it go but they have handled it pretty shittily for the last few years
|
for anybody under 30 - maybe under 35 - they have no clue what an event MNF was in the 70's - Cosell made it what it was, back then the halftime highlight package was your only look at alot of teams and games.
turn out the lights the party's over |
It helped make the NFL into the nations most popular game by far, and turned the NFL into an economic powerhouse. The NFL is now the most powerful and rich sports league in the world.
And MNF was a helluva show. But things change. Viewership on Sunday Nights is greater, and NBC came up with the $. And Monday football will now revert to ESPN. But MNF on ABC.........whatta ride. Thanks. |
Couldn't help getting misty a few times tonight...thanks for all of the memories MNF...

So many games we watched. Some of them good. Some of them bad. Some of them even great.
But man, if you love football, you loved Monday Night Football on ABC. |
Turn out the lights. The party's over. And then I cried.

Thank god for the NFL Channel. If you don't have it, I highly recommend it, despite the repeat programming. But there was just something special about football on Monday Night on ABC. So many water cooler moments with friends......did you watch the game.......did you see that play???? And so many good moments with friends coming over on Monday to watch.
It will be missed. |

The Snow Bowl in Denver........who could ever forget this?

#1 Memory of MNF by Sports Illustrated:
Cosell reports live that John Lennon has just been senselessly assassinated. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/mul...ontent.10.html :( |

Yeah, MNF moves to ESPN :thumbsup
|
GFY is the new MNF, where news breaks first (or where news breaks wind, I am never quite sure).
On a serious note, that is where I first heard of Lennon's senseless assassination too... ADG Webmaster |

Good memories - remember that OJ used to be an announcer for a few years :) and still remember the earlier attempts they made back in the late 60s (although only done locally in some areas before the blackout rules) and those games were kicking!
|
thanks for the good times
|
they usually show allot of the ESPN stuff on TSN up here, I hope they do the same with MNF.
Anyone ever see the movie they did for MNF? Was was frickin great! I think you'll see the stock in Sunday night football pick up allot too. Specially with Madden going over etc... Any news on who else is going to work MNF now? I know Michaels is supposed to be staying..gawd I hope we dont see Denis Miller again..gawd I couldnt stand him. |
hasta la vista - thanks for the memories
