Why isn't the United States the number 1 country option for CC forms?
And the like?
Or top processing countries? How many Afgans ever buy anything? |

I dunno, my Afgan just lays over the love seat all year.
|
that pisses me off as well. when I have to scroll down the whole fucking list to the bottom to select the United States.
it should be default first one, 2nd one Canada, etc. in order from more popular to less popular.. |
I purchased from Amazon (or one of the major sites) last week. Had to scroll though what seemed like 1000s of countries.

And scrolling down, you are almost sure to miss US the way it is set up. I have gotten declined before only to figure out I put in United Emirates. |
I've seen some signup forms (non-adult) actually do geo-targetting on your IP and preselects your country for you. That should be rather easy to do in my opinion.

I guess you still have the other options? |

That is a good idea, although it is sometimes off. My geoip always give me SanDiego, and I am actually in Mexico. |
I know Americans like to believe that they are the only people in the world that matter, but as much as you'd like to believe that, its not true.
People in other countries do in fact have money and even CC's. I know its a shock, but the world can be a scary place sometimes. |
Its your own fault for picking a country name at the end of the alphabet. If you want to be picky, "United States of America" isn't even really a name. Its more of a categorical designation or something lol
Sometimes if you hit the "U" key, it will skip straight to U, depending on how its programmed. I usually hit C to get to Canada |
I've seen some credit card lists with USA then Canada then United Kingdom and then the rest listed. That's how I had it set up where I used to work, makes MUCH more sense. :2 cents:
I'm actually surprised to learn that places like Amazon and etc don't do it that way. It's a real simple thing to set up too! Maybe they don't want to be viewed as American Elitists by their foreign traffic? |

Also, scan your passport stamps. |
It's just the large population, net usage and excellent connections that make places these appear on drop downs.
Wallis Futuna Islands Western Sahara Cocos Island Pitcairn Uganda Antarctica Svalbard Jan Mayen Islands Norfolk Island Mmm.. wonder which Cocos Isles - one is in the Pacific with a population of six rangers and no overnight stays allowed and no net connection. The other is in the Indian Ocean with a population of around 500. Oh hell.. a geo problem to start with :winkwink: Ya ain't lived WEG Cory - these places are the financial hub of the net and beat the US and EU hands down :winkwink: |

booo hooooo.. poor americans that have to scroll down the list....
|
and why do so many US sites makes selecting a state mandatory even when you're not from the US? and then forget to have an option like "outside US"? i hate to choose "Nebraska, Germany". :error

IP-based geo-detection rocks -- :thumbsup

Exactly Cory, afterall everyone in the world knows that the US is #1. C'mon! ;)
|
We have the top buying countries listed first and then alpabetical list
|
ISO and select IP/GEO & Browser Lang.
|
We have the US as the default country, and at some other projects we use geotargeting (they still can change it to another country if it's incorrect or if they are outside the country, but I think CC processors decline transactions anyway if the country where the card was issued doesn't match the country of the IP address?)
