I have the Altec Lansing ATP5. No idea how many watts to tell you the truth, but god damn they sound good.

I listen to more music on my computer than thru any other medium.

400 Watts PMPO maybe ;)

My uncle's a DJ. Has a fairly small setup, 4x400 Watt RMS speakers. They're about 2 feet high, with a 14 inch cone each. This will give you an idea of how loud they are..

A friend of mine lives about a 5 minute walk down the road from me. We dj'd a neighbour's party.. and my friend said him and his family could hear us... we only had the volume set to about 10-15 percent of what these things can handle.

how much is it ?

MetaformX 04-04-2002 03:02 PM

these fuckers are cheap too
i got the logitech......ui did a bunch of research, and for 400 watts and the price, these were by far the best stuff around
got them for $150 shipped.....
logitech is not known for speakers, but these ones beat out both the altec lansing and the klipsch (the king of pc speakers)

got them from http://www.provantage.com/

their called "logitech Z560"

They're really only 53 watts per channel, with a 188 watt sub, but that's still pretty sweet for PC speakers.

I plug my PC right into my home theater setup. Now that is some good sound. I can shake a beer bottle right off the table if I crank the sub.

PSB 300 watt 15 inch subwoofer
Onkyo dolby digital receiver (100 watts X 5 channels)
ATI 1502 stereo amplifer driving the mains (225 watts per channel into 4 ohms.)
PSB Stratus speakers all the way around.

Only problem is now I have tinnitus.

Klipsch is the grand daddy of actual multimedia speakers. My buddy has a set of their Pro Media 5.1 http://www.klipsch.com/products/prod...ail.asp?id=398 and they kick fucking ass, superb sound.

There's a new set out by Cambridge Soundwords that's supposed to be pretty damn good though, but I haven't heard nothing much about them yet, as far as reviews go - http://www.hifi.com/store/category.c...a &type=store

MetaformX, I was actually thinking about taking a cheaper way out and going for the Logitechs, I heard the same as you, they're supposed to be EXCELLENT speakers at a great price. Everywhere I hear, say that they kick some ass.

slick, the pro media 5.1 was actually my first choice, but i really couldnt justify the price to tell you the truth....im gonna be getting a new pc soon (i have a p3 600 right now) and i figured ill spend the extra $ on a geforce 4 instead and go with the cheaper speakers.

these logitechs are just superb. they even have little screws at bottoms, where you can mount the 4 little speakers on your wall. the only probloms i have noticed on the logitechs so far are that i have read alot of feedback, where people are saying that you should not cranck the logitechs up in the first few days, because their very easy to blow.....just break them in first and you wont have a problom after that

other thing is that they have a amp on the back (very nice), but the wiring that connects to the amp is really shitty....it takes a bit of time to really get the wires hooked into the amp....and make it stick, but after that, your good to go. thats about it. everything else is great

I have 2 Yahama NS10s and 2 KRK V8s with a Velodyne CT-150
The whole setup was around 3 grand, but they are well worth it in my line of work. Can't mix a hit album on PC speakers.

MetaformX, I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying the Logitech speakers. Great minds think alike, I was thinking the same thing that you did. Like you say, you can spend $150 on the Logitechs, still getting a kick ass set of speakers and taking that other $250 and doing some other upgrades with it.

Thanks for the heads up on breaking them in. I think that I read something about people blowing their speakers. It's nice hearing what's up from someone that owns some. I think in the next week or so, I'm gonna go out and get some.

In a way, I'd like to get the 5.1 surround sound, but fuck, I have a wife and kids, it's not that often that I can actually crank the things up to enjoy them anyways, ha ha ha.

slick, blowing these speakers might actually be pretty hard, im discovering. If you take the volume knob past the halfway mark, you will prolly start shattering things like windows and glass jars... The room i have the speakers in is my "entertainment room", which is very small.... and even at the halfway mark, this shakes the windows and ive already had 1 picture frame fall. good stuff. :thumbsup
