Thanks for sharing...that was fuggin' awesome (haven't seen it in awhile).

After giving it some thought though, I must conclude that "Honky Tonk Woman" by the Rolling Stones is my favorite tune featuring the cowbell.

Any other nominees for best cowbell tune ever???

Does that BoC song actually feature the cowbell or not? I can't imagine it without it now.

Yes it does absolutely.

No idding! Don't Fear The Reaper is like 30 years old this year...we need some updated cowbell! Even this concert pic of them DOING Don't Fear The Reaper I shot in 1981 didn't include the cowbell!

Nice photo circa 1981...I think the cowbell was attached to the drum kit.

Anyway, I just put on "Some Enchanted Evening" a BOC album with "Don't Fear the Reaper" on it, and I didn't hear a cowbell, but I could almost swear it was on the studio album.

In any case, I always liked the earlier Blue Oyster Cult best (Secret Treaties, Tyranny and Mutation, etc)...and "On Your Feet or On Your Knees", still ranks as one of the best live rock albums ever.

:-)
Ya it probably was on the drum kit...this pic, FYI was in Oct 1981, and was when MTV taped concerts to show - that night was in Hollywood, Florida @ The Sportatorium, with Foghat and B.O.C., and I was shooting the show as stills for MTV...which was in it's infancy then...

It may not have been on SEE, but it was for sure on the studio recording.

I actually like deeper stuff by them "Astronomy", "E.T.I.", etc....find me in Vegas @ Internext...I think you're coming to GOTIParty, so I will for sure be there...

I never got to go to the hollywood sportatorium because i was too young. That place had the worst reputation. My 2 oldest brothers used to go to shows there and the stories of that place were always brutal, haha.

Anywho- back to more cowbell :winkwink:

Screaming 12-31-2005 10:29 PM

I once saw Blue Oyster Cult perform as "Soft White Underbelly" at was then called the Keystone Palo Alto (basically a small hangar configured club). Lots of good shows there back in the wayback.
