making a flash banner clickable

I have been trying to make a flash banner clickable (adding a link into the banner itself.) and I can't seem to make a button work correctly

I want to make the whole banner clickable and link out to another website. I found this via google:

In the bottom layer across the entire timeline place a button the entire size of the stage. It can be the same color as your background.
Select the button on the stage. Go to Behaviors pane.
Click Plus Sign, Choose Web, Choose Go To Website.
Type your URL and select whether you want it in a new (blank) window or the same window (self), etc. That should do it.

But, I can;t seem to understand how to go to the bottom layer and place a button. Can anyone help?

Hmm that doesnt make sense to me. I have no clue about flash to be honest, and thats even more confusing. Isn't there something simple you can do to make the damn thing clickable?

Ok, here's something simple. If you can't do this then I don't know what to say.

Create a new button and make it a neutral color (or don't make it a color at all). Make the actual button larger than your animation. So if your animation is 420x120 make the button 500x200. Now when you're creating your button, you're going to have a "hotspot" area that you can define. This is an invisible layer to the person but not to the browser. You should have a new button with no color for any of the states but a defined hotspot.

Name it something that you'll remember. Hit CTRL+L to show your library. Now drag that newly created button into the canvas area. This will place that button into your project and will cover 100% of your canvas. This will make the entire banner clickable.

Now go in and define your target link and you're done.

When you say create a button, is that the same as create a layer?

Nope. You have to create a new symbol. With that symbol you have options; movie, button, image. Select button.

After you create the symbol it adds it to your library. You can then use it as many times as you want in your project by dragging it out of your library.

Try reading a flash book. Try going to the demo's on the macromedia website. jeezus h fucking christ. Or hire a flash designer.

I have 10 bucks that says he stold flash and doesn't want to go to their site for help because he's afraid to get caught.

Its like saying I put the <a href tags on the page but I can't get it to work. It could be anything like closing a quote.
