In what format does Final Cut capture video? I can't tell. It doesn't save the extension.

Hmm...never thought about it. I would guess it is just being captured with either the NTSC or PAL codec (at a data rate of 3.6Mb/Sec).

It is when you export it using a different format (codec) that you would apply an extension (.mov, etc). If you were exporting back to a camera it would remain NTSC with no extension.

Typically I export as Quicktime, and then use Cleaner to batch process the video into whatever format and data rates that are required (i.e., WMV at 100Kb and 300Kb, MPEG at 100Kb and 300Kb).

I'm just capturing with the program defaults. And on the Mac no extension is shown. So I'm hoping it's capturing as .avi but I'm not sure. I want to burn a dvd of the raw capture and give it to a PC user. But the PC user will need to know what extension to rename as...

Typically video software stores the video in their own format so it will be quicker to edit. You would have to render the clips to the format you desire. I know Vegas defaults to AVI, but I think MAC would stick their their MOV baby.

Avid "suck my balls" XPress Pro needs to be rendered to be exported (with the exception of the audio which is AIF).

try renaming the files with different extentions to see if it can be done. but copy the files to a different computer because if it is a MOV, it may store it in a linkable mov.

A reliable source tells me the native format is .mov. :(

I haven?t worked with Final Cut Pro for a long time but I believe it was .mov. Compared to Adobe Premiere I found Final Cut much better work with, the only problem I had back then was the exporting in file format. Good luck :)
