A dining-room table set, my tailor & smokey smelling pants ...

So, I'm off to meet my wife to go look at a new dining room set and my phone rings as I walk out the door. It's my wife, and she asks me if everything is ok. I said fine, just jumpimg in the car and heading over to meet her. She said that she saw some fire trucks and an ambulance going by - heading in the direction of our house ... and just had an odd feeling. We both laughed and I started driving to meet her.

A couple miles from my house I see that traffic is moving slowly and off in the distance I see the fire trucks. At first I don't think much of it. Then, as I start moving closer - I realize the they're in the same parking lot as my tailor. Hmmmm, I say to myself - I hope my tailor didn't burn down - he and his wife were super nice people and (of course) I just dropped off 4 pairs of jeans the other day to get hemmed for Vegas.

As I get closer, I still can't see WTF happened because 3 fire trucks are parked parallel to the stores - but I DO SEE SMOKE! As I pass the final truck, I see some charred blackness on the building and the firemen with their hoses spraying under the overhang about 4 stores away from my tailor ... but can't see his store.

Long story short - after getting the dining-room set ... I head back over to the tailor and park my car. I see him pacing back and forth. He recognizes me, smiles, walks over and we chat for a few moments. He and his wife are fine. There was an electrical fire a couple stores down from him. "Everything is "smokey smokey" in store" (his words) but I should come back in a while and he'll check on my pants when they let him go back inside.

So, I go grub on some sushi and come back about a half hour later. I walk into his store thinking I'm just going to pick up my jeans and try to find another place to do a rush job because he'll be closed for a few days - turns out ... my pants were ready 2 days early! Smokey smelling but ready! :)

Of course I'm glad I got my jeans for Vegas but DAMN - in the scope of life, that's NOTHING ... I really feel bad for this guy and his wife. What a fucked up way for them to start off the new year!

Luckily, they just have to clean up, nobody was hurt and nothing was burned though. :(

Just another example that life HAPPENS! Be thankful for what you have ... it can all be taken away in a blink of an eye! :winkwink:

I feel bad for little companies like his when something happens. He will take a loss by having the clothes smell bad.

Hope you gave him a tip for being done early!

No losses over the deductible will most likely be covered by some type of insurance coverage.

J$,

That always sucks when someone's business is affected by things out of there control. Glad they are safe and with a bit of cleanup they will be back soon enough.

My thoughts exactly. And the is only a tailor, not a dry cleaner - so I'm sure people will be pissed although it's no fault of his own.

Tip yes - and all my tailoring business from now on. He has a loyal customer for as long as i live in the area!
