DID AVN KILL INTERNEXT?? (Staying in my room during the day)

Still trying to make sence of it all.

I dont think I EVER remember deciding to stay in the room while the trade show was going at the same time to rest up for the night..

Seems like all the biz is at night for the private parties.
And if you arent on a private party list, or a newbie, I dont see how Internext could be the least bit productive this year. In fact it could be pretty overwhelming and confusing really.

Too many people, yet not enough... Too many AVN people, fans, and not enough Internext people.

I dont mean to slam AVN, Internext has always been my favorite, and now days I dont go to many shows, but Im wondering if I made the right choice for my yearly show choice in choosing this as my only show for the year to attend.

Overall Vegas has been great thus far at night. The parties and the people Ive been with have been a blast..

But I dont ever remember such a lull in terms of Internext itself and the trade show..

Still dont know why it was scheduled like this.

I went to internext a few years back in Florida. It is the smaller of the two, and supposed to be more productive.

the show floor was ok, the meetings sucked. And the parties were average. Everyone I met was too fucking drunk to do anything but hand out a card, and tell me to call, or e-mail. And they from day to day, they had no idea who anyone was unless it was a long time friend.

I found the show to be a total waste of time and money. and it was only 150 per person then.

Doctor Dre 01-06-2006 04:10 PM

AVN killed their business with webmastesr period. They are arrogant, they don't listen to anything, and got a know it all attitude.

MrIzzz 01-06-2006 04:37 PM

BP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

dude, thats so damn true

man you should of went to ces today the dudes from google were speaking. Thats sucks that you are sitting in your room. I think the phoenix show and the lensman events are going to over take internext as the shows to be at and do business at.

boneprone 01-06-2006 04:48 PM

Internext is a GREAT show...... If it wasnt I wouldnt be here....

They can fix this easily.. Its just a logistical mistake I hope they now realize...

I'm glad i decided not to go - I went skiing in vermont for three days instead :thumbsup

phonesex 01-06-2006 06:07 PM

I was thinking of going but the casino are ripping you off charging three times what the normal going rate is, Internext pass is around $200. I've been to the internext show in Vegas and in Florida and they suck every time. I already know most of the companies who have booths. Why even bother?

Seems i didn't miss too much then.

Glad i saved my cash for other things instead...

nastyboy1 01-06-2006 07:16 PM

have to agree with BP. There was a general "gloom" all over the floor today and many of the companies said they felt like the red headed step child with our registration all tucked back in the corner while AVN was front and center.

This is still our best show of the year but I hope they rethink the venue, setup and timing in the future.

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 01-06-2006 08:12 PM

I have always found that staying in the room during the day or just going out to get somthing to eat or set up a lunch was always the best thing to do during Expos.

Its really a no brainer.

Sosa 01-06-2006 09:09 PM

Viva la convergence. What a fucking stupid concept. It works most of the time that's sad.

I have to agree. I think I saw some tumbleweed in there also. I think it will probably just get smaller and smaller every year.

Lev 01-06-2006 10:32 PM

yeah, this was my first time attending the internext and I was very dissapointed, except for Jordan Capri being there :)

SteveLightspeed 01-06-2006 10:37 PM

Here's the secret, that I learned from attending 60+ shows over the last 5 years; no one wants to be CHARGED to talk to each other! (Dokk taught me that)

Here's to Phoenix Forum 2006, I'm very proud of what my hometown show has become!

Internext really blew. I couldn't believe there was nobody around. To get to Internext you had to go down this long hall and it was a bitch to find. We actually end up at AVN looking for Internext. CCBill didn't even have a booth. Went to AVN and it was fucking packed. Next year Internext is in March for the Vegas show, so I don't know what is going on.

BP4L !

Hit me up on ICQ ...

RogerV 01-07-2006 12:34 AM

I knew exactly what it was going to be like that is why this is the first time I didnt go to a Internext show since ia2000.

no more internext shows for me. unless they really step it up.
the smaller ones are way more productive

Internext in my opinion was really dead, very little show floor traffic and even less and less sponsors. By comparison though, AVN and AEE was huge. AVN really needs to revamp Internext as at this rate, there is no reason to attend.

PS: Boneprone, if you're only doing one show this year, I think you should definitely consider Phx Forum, its by far the most productive show I've ever attended.

Right there with you! Except I will likely go to the Hollywood Internext, only because its 10min from the house... :winkwink:

EroticySteve 01-09-2006 07:39 AM

If you were counting on Internext to bring out the average or new small webmaster it was disappointing. However, from a B2B perspective this was the best show. Most of the people that I deal with are not webmasters but program owners and directors and for that reason this show was productive, but I had to make it happen.

Not JUST charged, but charged EXORBITANTLY. Their show pass costs have more than tripled just in a few years! Ridiculous.

LadyMischief 01-09-2006 07:41 AM

And they're raking in by jacking up the rates on the sponsors booths.. how much more did sponsors pay this year for a booth than previous years? I'd be curious to see the historical data on that :P

Ross 01-09-2006 07:57 AM

I have to admit, on January 2nd when everyone was getting ready to go to Vegas I was a little pissed that I decided not to go.... I mean its Vegas, one of the best places I've been to. I decided the money it was gonna cost me I'd prefer to keep it and put a new kitchen in my new house.

After reading several threads I must admit now I feel I made the right choice. Sure I missed some great parties and so on, but I was in LA 2 months ago and that was amazing.

Last year when I got back from Vegas, there was thread after thread about people saying how great it was... I don't see that this year... (maybe it'll happen in the next few days)

So far tho I think I made a good decision not to go.

Joesho 01-09-2006 08:10 AM

I did GREAT business this year here.

But like boneprone said it was atthe private party, or dinner, or up in a suite , or in pre set up meetings I had.

I was only on the floor for about 3 hrs in total. ( As mentioned AEE/AVN side kicked ass!)

I think Florida is a great show and venue for internext. However I think the best thing internext Vegas can do is move to a new city. I think Lat Jan/ early feb.

and it should be in Like , Denver Atlanta, Baltimore, or maybey Vancouver/whistler.

That is my opinion.

one thing for sure is, AVN is ALWAYS working to help webmasters , so I am sure they will figure out a solution.

Herb Kornfield 01-09-2006 08:23 AM

Times just change and nothing lasts forever. When I was there 3 years ago everyone was out of their minds drunk or high to really do anything of use from a business perspective.

Smaller meetings with an intimate crowd are the way to go. You'll get tons more done and really walk away with a real ROI compared to a load of stories on your lost weekend.

s9ann0 01-09-2006 08:34 AM

oh yea vegas...

ajrocks 01-09-2006 08:49 AM

The show was shit ass this year! The Venetian got a little too Greedy having 3 shows at once. The Avns destroyed internext. It was just shit. Glad to hear they are moving the show to the Bay next March, I'll give it one more chance.

Reading these kinds of threads crack me up, prices change on everything, is gas the same price as it was 3 years ago or even last year? Everything goes up that is just the way it is.

I am so glad we went this year, before show even started made one of our biggest content deals could have gone home that day it was huge. Ended up seeing things i had never seen going to Vegas, that was amazing, AVN Awards walk down the fan rows was so intense....the show rocked.

The dinners, shows, spending time with friends, you just cant put a price on that. :2 cents:
