Getting Galleries from TGPs
 

Is it illegal to select some of the galleries from multiple existing TGPs, and then place those links on your own TGP (with a new description hand typed and all the galleries you collect mixed up).

I cant see how this could be illegal as a copyright infringment - although one large TGP seems to think it is.

My argument is that if I want to create a TGP - I get my links from three sources - one "the internet" (normally via other TGPs) - two - via sponsors FHGs and three - via subbed links from webmasters.

So - is grabbing links from other TGPs illegal??

That would imply that what the SEs do is also illegal. I suspect that if the gallery could be found thru 2+ different means than no one could legally go after someone for doing it.

The TGPs don't like it because they put a lot of work into reviewing them etc. But if I remember correctly, some huge TGPs got started by doing that.

"Accordingly, individuals or entities identified as copying links from the Hun's Yellow Pages will be considered copyright infringers and will be pursued to the fullest extent of the law."

So in this case - "the full extent of the law" would mean - well ZERO.

Shemp - I aint copying anything other than the Target URL. (Thats if I decide to do it at all). My own descriptions will be entered onto the TGP.

At the end of the day it comes down to whether or not you could afford the legal fees etc. if he decided to come after you.. And he could come after you even if he knew he wasn't going to win. If you're worried about it then you need to talk to a lawyer. I would think though that the copyright would apply to the text he uses to describe the link, not a link to the gallery itself. So changing the description would get rid of that legal problem. And if that link was found on another site or in the SEs, then there's no proof you even got it from his sight in the first place. But again, talk to a lawyer.

With the above in light - approximately how many FHG's do you think I could get my hands on from all the sponsors on this board?

Dont get me wrong - Im not a lazy bitch - Ill do all my own descriptions etc.
And Im not tight either - I can host aswell - but getting volume legally is what I want to do - I want to keep on the straight and narrow.

The thing is - that over the next 3 months I will be building 20 TGPs across one brandname - and I DESPERATELY NEEEEEED links to gals to get the ball rolling.

theres lots of scripts around that harvest galleries from other sites...i guess the ethics of it are debatable...Good TGP sites employ reviewers, maintain blacklists, check the gallery for redirects, etc etc....to go in and copy/paste source code may not be welcomed, if you know what i mean...

Steal all the links you want from fake TGPs, at least the guy you're snagging the links from will get paid for them.

Depends on your niche(s).... http://www.fhgstore.com/ says that they have over 230,000 FHGs in their DB and I know that they don't have all of them from some sponsors and they don't have all sponsors.

Now FHGstore looks the business.

230,000 gals.

That would be enough to get me going on the FHG side of things without having to bother crawling other sites.
