So I sat next to a "celebrity" on the airplane

On my way back to Spain I was at the airport in Vegas when I saw this tall guy walking through the airport. He looked familiar but I couldn't figure out where I had seen him before. So I walk to the gate with Mathilde and Arnaud and when I get there I see the guy again but I still couldn't figure out who it was. We all board the plane and I look down at my boarding pass only to see that I am stuck in the middle. I arrive at my economy class seat to find the "celebrity" sitting in the window seat. I then realize that its Sinbad, the comic from the 80's. He told me that he was in town to perform at a private party (sorry I missed that blast). So, I asked him if he had seen the Family Guy episode that he's in but he claimed to have never seen it.
I still had to say to him...

"You got me, 'Men do all be actin' like Zombies at the mall'."

He just laughed.

I realize that some people will say that this thread is useless without pics. Unfortunately my camera was out of batteries.
But do you really want to see photos of some has-been comedian from the 80's?

You're right Chris. Sinbad rocked in the day! Of course, he's probably still funny, he's just not the big movie star anymore.

I think we should book him for Pheonix Forum! We can host a "throwback" (has-been) ball. We could get Gary Coleman, Todd Bridges, the surviving members of C + C music factory. oh! how about a fan sign by Candice Cameron! I just need to look for my Hammer pants. "Men be actin' like zombies at the mall", how observant, Sinbad is the man!

It's top cool to sit next to a celeb!

gornyhuy 01-13-2006 09:30 AM

Poor bastard is flying coach, eh?

Rufchild 01-13-2006 09:52 AM

Not only was he flying coach, but he was flying coach on AmericaWest.

Ben, I think a Throw-back Ball definitely needs to be put together. We could also get Kirk Cameron since his sister's coming, and I think Boney M should headline.

Ra Ra Rasputin, lover of the Russian queen! I love it!

I saw him a few years ago and he was at a sporting goods store. I went over to say hello and tell him that he is pretty funny doing stand-up and I got stopped by his security guard. Now it might just be me, but why the hell does that guy need a security guard? I mean he hasn't had a hit since Kid n' Play. Also, he is like 6'5" and 300lbs. and nobody cares enough to mess with him. Big thumbs down in my book.

stephane76 01-13-2006 10:37 AM

he must be broke :1orglaugh

I knew him back in the day... his real name is David Atkins.. or Adkins, something like that. I always called him big Dave.
I managed a comedy club and he performed there several times.

He is CHEAP!!! He saved his money and wasn't like the other comedians that would blow it on women and drinking. He even washed his clothes at my house one Sunday after a weekend gig.

His dad was a minister and I think he is a really nice person.

Ya might wanna re-think that Kirk Cameron idea. He's got a strictly 'Christian' agenda these days: http://www.wayofthemaster.com/

Well... I had all the comedians over on Sundays, which was a down day, to do laundry and a home cooked meal. You know us Southern women... we like to cook for everyone.

I can name lots of folks now that have "made" it that ate at my table.

But I won't. :upsidedow
