Any snowboarders here?

Wooohoooo! I've decided it's time to give it a shot...Tried it once 4 years ago and I never realized I had so many muscles in my butt :1orglaugh I was sore for a week! I've got a few good friends that are into these "EXTREME" sports thing and promised to have me doing jumps by the end of the day! Wish me luck! :thumbsup

I promise some pics! :winkwink:

ssp 01-22-2006 06:12 AM

Been snowboarding for over 8 years now... good luck with it!

Violetta 01-22-2006 06:19 AM

I have been snowboarding for ages. But only a few times a year! Good luck! It's mad fun!!

penzo 01-22-2006 07:08 AM

its awesome, I've been snowboarding for 6 years now...nothing can beat it

looking forward for those pics

HDADULT 01-22-2006 08:12 AM

Snowboarding is great! Once you try boarding sking is not that fun anymore.
I wouldnt worry about jumping your first day. I broke my ankle trying to get to crazy and not having good equipment. The most important thing you can do is to make sure your set-up is right and you have good gear. This well help you not get hurt
when you crash...ohhh end you will crash good luck :)

I've been going for 3 years now. I absolutely love it. I'm thinking of putting a trip together for Chile in August, right after Internext.

psili 01-22-2006 08:55 AM

Wear a helmet, cuz catching an edge and smashing the brain bucket on packed snow hurts a little bit. :)

Roald 01-22-2006 09:37 AM

4 years now, love it.

1st stop France 3rd of Feb 3 days, 2nd stop Kaprun SEE SIG YO! ;)))

Cory W 01-22-2006 10:25 AM

I am snowboarding for the first time next weekend. Going to Tahoe.

I am a surfer, hoping I can adjust to being on the snow.

Just bought my gear yesterday.

Good Luck FB.

I agree, trees hurt too, dont fall into the tree wells head first, its a real pita to get out.

I've been doing it for 5 years now, and go to the gym 2-3 times a week but when I go for a weekend and there is lots of powder I am still sore as hell the next day, I think its because you use alot of the stabalizing muscles. But its so worth it.

Have fun :)

Really?

I am getting very mixed reviews. A few surfer friends I have said I would be ok after a bit on the slopes, but others have told me I will basically fall down all day.

You will fall down all day. Lean forward and watch your opposite edge. Do not keep the board flat when going sideways

Kassidy 01-22-2006 10:48 AM

Isn't snowboarding a risky activity for a pregnant girl?

What he said.

The first day you probably will fall...... a lot...... but it gets a lot easier after that.:thumbsup

marketsmart 01-22-2006 11:01 AM

the best advice ever given to me on my first day learning:

to go right (regular foot) lift heels

to go left (regular foot) lift toes

especially helpful if you are a surfer or skater cause the first day you will try to slide your turns instead of getting on edge

Shoehorn! 01-22-2006 12:51 PM

I've been snowboarding forever, haven't been on skis since.

fuzebox 01-22-2006 03:48 PM

On my 11th season now... Only got to go to Whistler a few days this Christmas, but a buddy and I are hitting Chile this summer, should be good.

Someone mentioned pregnant chicks. Are you pregnant? If so, why are you going snowboarding?

The last time I snowboarded...

The last time I snowboarded, I ended up with a severe concussion and a 3rd degree seperated right shoulder (I'm right handed too! It sucked!) bounced my brain off of my cranium lol. I ended up in one of those immobilizer for 3 months.

All that aside, have fun trying! lol

HDADULT 01-22-2006 08:24 PM

the whole trick to snowboarding is getting used to the awkward feeling of falling backwards or fallwards without doing what your brain tells you to do.
its awsome once you get the hang of it.

You sure it was snowboarding that caused your butt to be sore for a week or was EC just a very very lucky man around that time period ?

16 years snowboarding.

But now I don't do anything that would break bones. I'm all about carving and being smooth. I leave the half pipes to the kids. :thumbsup

its going to be completly backwards... when you surf you control yourself with your front foot.. when you board everything works off your back foot.

EplMania 01-22-2006 10:54 PM

I love snowboarding. I try to go out every week!

reed_4 01-22-2006 11:19 PM

I haven't tried it yet. I think I need to conquer my fears and just do it.

You know those wrist guards that rollerbladers use, with the hard platic in them to keep wrists from breaking; those might also be a good idea, since you'll be landing on your hands a ton. However, I've never seen a beginning snowboarder use those, so maybe it's a retarded idea.

bambamxxx 01-23-2006 06:50 AM

have fun :1orglaugh although i think that there are more surfers thyan snowboarders here :winkwink:
