Your First Job
Lets have a fun thread.
Before you became a webmaster, what job did you first have. How old were you? How much did it pay? And what were you working [saving up] for? |
I was 15 and worked as a dishwasher and bought a stereo with it.I think minimum wage back then was like 5 bucks an hour
|
Your first job, and what you did before becoming a webmaster are two different questions.
I believe my first job was newspaperboy, and it was for peanuts. I used the money to buy my own clothes because my family was too poor to shop anywhere besides thrift stores. |
I was working on a paintball field for 8 bucks per hour.. was a cool job :thumbsup

13 and I painted paintings "live" inside my uncle's Antique shop in the trendy part of town. He was ahead of his time. Or maybe he was just gay...
|

Was to keep me out of trouble and since my dad had just passed away, it was so my mother wouldn't have the extra burden of any spending money I needed. I saved half and spent half - bought a bond with it. |

18 - telemarketing at Olan Mills, I think I made 5.50 an hr or 5.00 I'm not sure.
I didn't even get to drive until I was 19. I don't come from those healthy middle class happy-go-lucky Brady Bunch family where they just let their kids drive when their 16. My life basically sucked when I was younger, but what can you do :( And after that I had a shitty job working for an answering service for 6.50 and I got fired for being late. Even at 18 my mom didn't let me drive, so she drove me and we would be late all the time. Basically my life sucked so much that I repressed and I don't want to think about it now :( |
14 years old, Famous Deli, cashier. I started at $4.75 for the first month and then got bumped up to $5.15 - all taxed.
|
I hope it has something to do with cars, cause I like to ride in them, and hopefully it pays a lot and I don't have to do anything but give a bunch of highschool boys orders.
Man I can't wait to get my first job, I want to buy a dog house in case I ever get a dog. |
Flippin burgers, 15, 5 bucks an hour, worked my way up to manager but the pay still sucked.
|
Tutoring bad ass kids at the YMCA...
|
my first job , was a paperboy , 13-14 , waking up at 5am to deliver papers for $25 a week , but i supplimented my pay by selling excess papers to the taxi rank , some of em used to give me $5 for a 90cent paper , the newsagent also used to throw out the old mags , all they did was cut the magazine title off and throw the rest of the mag in the bin , so i used to get the mags (car mags , porn mags, amiga 500 mags ) take em to school and sell em off for $2-$3 a mag
also got store discounts , used to stock up on chewing gum and sell them |
In all seriousness, my first job was a roofer... not like a mexican, but a real roofer. I worked with my uncle on 1 job and it lasted 3 days. I was so fucking sunburned I couldn't move for 3 weeks, literally. But he did pay me $195 and at 15 years old, that was pretty good for 3 days work.
|
My first job, if I remember correctly, was at a TROPHY SHOP in Van Nuys. I was assembling trophies for Little League matches, bowling, employee of the year, you name it. I was used to thinking that REAL trophies were made of bronze pieces. No such luck. All of our trophies were made of molded plastic from Taiwan (probably moved to China by now) and marble/stone bases from Italy. The plaques/customized plates were etched in the US though.
I enjoyed that job. It gave me something to do after school and I really liked creating something of value that would make someone smile. I also liked being part of the team and making some money.:thumbsup |
I was around 11-12.
I wanted a stereo system and a jeff kendall graffiti skateboard from GoSkate!. My mom knew the owners of this local audio / video store. It was during Xmas season and I stood on the sidewalk out front, on a busy street in Belmont, CA; a skinny, little dude in a Santa suit and a stupid pillow wedged in around my stomach and the huge black belt. I held a white-board sign with "Sale" and some other shit written on it. That lasted for a few weeks, for a few hours a day during Xmas break. Saved enough money for the deck, bullet wheels and independent trucks. Got the stereo from doing chores around the house a year or so later. |
I was a CIT at a day camp. That lasted for 2 weeks untill I got into a fight with another CIT and had all of the kids rat tailing him. Oh Well.
|
My old boss emailed me the other day, asking if I needed work, seeing as he hadn't heard of me getting a job at a rival firm.
I enjoyed telling him that I was happy to be making more than he was. |
My first job was when I was 18 and fresh out of high school. I only worked there during the summer till college started so only a few months but it sucked. I worked with disabled people that also had mental issues. There were a bunch of houses and each day I worked in a different house. One of the houses were full of guys who did some sort of sexual offense at some point in there life but because they were not mentally stable, they stuck them in a home together. Another house was full of Prader-Willies, they are people who will eat themselves to death... they eat and eat and eat cause they never feel full. They put pad-locks on all the cubboards and the fridge. The worst house I worked the most in had an older lady that was a major bitch!! She was in a wheel chair so we had to lift her out of bed (did i mention she was like 300 pounds) and lift her on to the toilet and bath her in the shower. We also had to wipe her ass... She was such a bitch that she would shit herself just so we had to clean it up and when you tried to help her she would hit you and yell at you and spit at you. My first and LAST job in the outside world. LOL Luckily only had to do it a few months.

I used to flip burgers to support my college education, then when I graduated I worked as a telemarketer. It was in that company where I stayed for the next 10 years until I quit early last year to go freelance

|
As a kid, a paper route, snow shoveling, sold candy from my backpack that I'd get for below wholesale from my mom's gift shop.
But the funniest of all I produced horror movies. I'd get kids in the neighborhood to be the actors so that when I showed the movies they'd all come to see them. I charged a quarter for admission and that included free popcorn. Back then a quarter was actually worth something. LOL |
had a paper route when I was like 11 or 12, I worked at a golf course in Sequim, WA. picking up the range balls at night (at age 13), and ran the proshop during the day until the owner came and saw a 13 year old running the proshop, and put a stop to that part of the deal. I also cleared lots with my weed-whacker and I charged $20 an hour (cash), washed & waxed cars for rich old retired men.
My first "Real" job was working at a Produce Stand called Country Farms on Aurora Ave in Edmonds, WA. Then Homebase until I walked out cuz it was too sunny and I wanted to be at the beach. |
