What is faster for notebook: AMD or INTEL M?

I am looking for a new notebook for a friend.

I'm in doubt for him between

Fujitsu Siemens and Dell. With his budget, we can choose the

FJ with Mobile AMD Athlon 64 3200+

Dell with IntelŪ PentiumŪ M Processor 735A

All others specs in the FS are much much better.

Based on performance, what would you pick? (batterylife is not that important for him)

Go with a 64bit

i just wouldnt go dual core in a lappy yet,

we just got two new AMD desktops and i love them, as well my first computer was an AMD. loved it as well.

I would always go with the AMD64 over any Intel chip. Just my preference though.

everestcash 01-29-2006 03:55 PM

amd for desktop, intel for laptop is my choice.

candyflip 01-29-2006 03:57 PM

How about those compared to the new Intel Macs?

stavan 01-29-2006 04:17 PM

only Intel for me thank you

Nookster 01-29-2006 04:22 PM

AMD for sure. These Intel brown-nosers are funny. :1orglaugh

justsexxx goto hardware.info een hollandse site, kan je je vraag daar stellen. 't Zit er vol techneuten.

Theo 01-29-2006 04:38 PM

i would get the dell

stev0 01-29-2006 04:58 PM

the AMD64 will be faster... pentium M will have a better battery life. Depends what he's looking for really.

Barefootsies 01-29-2006 05:10 PM

i have a Fujitsu Siemens with that processor - and this laptop is really fuckin' great, especially for the price. bluetooth would be the only thing missing, but i don't need it. and one more advantage: it's relatively quiet and even has a switch to shut down the fan completely if needed.

I have hp with AMD Sempron 3300+ 64 ... And it is only a little bit faster than my Athlon 1800+ on my desktop... I don't know, but I prefer Intel over AMD...can't complain though, with this one, but it looks slow :P

Pornwolf 01-29-2006 05:25 PM

I have 2 laptops, a P-4 M and a AMD 64bit. On a lot of programs the AMD is slower and it always heats up much much hotter.

Sometimes it's faster but by and large it's not. For a laptop I would stick to the Intel for now... at least until operating systems are optimized for 64 bit programs.

sigurman 01-29-2006 06:03 PM

no athlon

Go for a centrino M or any other processor made for laptops... Athlon is a desktop processor.
i have a Fujitsu-siemens 3438G Pentium M770 CENTRINO, 2,13 MHz, 2x80GB SATA, 1GB DDR2 17" 1440x900.
I love it :)
