Recommend a graphics program

I need a graphics program for very simple things, like using a specific font to create a transparent graphic for printing on a tshirt. Very simple needs, and only very rarely. I might use it once every 3 months.

Any suggestions ?

GIMP might work for you.

Have you tried it ? It feels a little overkill maybe.

PSP (paintshop pro) - much cheaper than photoshop

I'm a Photoshop user and Gimp doesn't even come close to doing what it does.

It will do what you want and won't cost you a penny :winkwink:

Obviously Photoshop is the best but you're going to be using very rarely and probably don't wish to fork out $500+

Try Ulead's PhotoImpact. It's under $100 and extremely good. I used it when I first started and got Photoshop-like results.

PaintShop Pro or Photoshop Elements 4.0 will work.

Hmm...didn't know there was an Elements4.0 out. I'm still runnin' v2. Gotta look in to that.

I second the GIMP recommendation. Totally free and very capable. It has a bunch of 'plugins' (script-fu is what the gimp calls it) good for generating nice-looking logos. Sounds perfect for your needs.
