Someone please explain My Name is Earl...

Last week I watched an episode of My Name is Earl. It was decent, nothing special, but I kept getting the feeling that I would like it a lot better if I knew more of the story and saw it from the beginning. So could someone please explain to me the story behind it?

Oh and I couldn't believe how much weight the actor who plays his brother has lost. He's been in a few movies and he was HUGE. Even in Earl he's a pretty big and overweight guy, but damn he had to have lost at least 100 pounds since I've seen him last. Good for him.

YOu have to have grown up in Texas or the south man...LOL.

I love the show. It's simple, not really hilarious, but very entertaining.

You are soooo right. I'm a Tennessee boy and that show shickles the tit out of me :1orglaugh

It reminds me of Ed. I hated Ed at first but I grew to love it. Very simple, goof ball humor. Just average people going about their life doing stupid shit.

I love that show! It cracks me up! I have my Tivo record it for me every week. Jamie Presley is great in it! :1orglaugh

Earl has been a bad man all his life, and because of this, he has bad karma. One day, he buys a scratch-n-win ticket and wins $100K. As he's jumping for joy, he gets hit by a car and loses the ticket. While laid up in the hospital, he catches a few minutes of Carson Daly's show. Carson's guest asked him how he's so successful and Carson explains that he believes that if you do good things, good things will happen to you.

Earl contemplates the concept of karma (which he thinks is something invented by Carson Daly) and makes a list of every bad thing he's ever done and decides he's going to right his wrongs. As he works on his first good deed (picking up trash since he was a litterbug), he finds his winning lottery ticket. He decides to use his winnings to fund his crusade to right his wrongs.

His trailer trash ex-wife, who divorced him while he was in the hospital, believes she is entitled to a cut of the winnings and tries to kill him, since she has a video will of him saying if he dies, she'll get everything.

That's sums up the first 2-3 episodes for you. (I'm bored!)

I'm so glad to read that I'm not the only one that just doesn't get this show.

One of the funniest shows on right now, behind Arrested Devellopment and Family Guy :2 cents:

Though last weeks episode was probably the weakest yet

You mean people like Earl and Crabman really exist? Whoa. I need to get out more into the back country me thinks. The show makes me laugh though, I think Four Kings makes me laugh harder... unless I am watching with my gf. She doesn't appreciate the games guys pull to meet girls, get laid, forget they ever existed. Not that...umm... we do these things.

This show is classic.

Earl believes in Karma...he has about 60 years of bad karma heading his way so he tries to make things right by fixing the bad shit hes done in the past.

Great show...original.

Then you need to see the new show "Love Monkey".. pretty decent and bears resemblance to Ed. Same guy in the lead role anyway, that Tom
Cavanaugh guy or whatever his name is. And believe it or not, Jason Priestley from 90210...

Broda 01-31-2006 02:45 AM

My Name Is Earl absolutely rocks. It's a fun 20 minutes of pure and simple entertainment. I particularly like his ex-wife and Crabman. They are so fucking stupid. His brother is stupid too, obviously, but knows it. These other 2 think they're smart, which makes it funnier.

adultchica 01-31-2006 05:55 AM

Yep, being from Texas this show is funny as hell. I missed some episodes too at the beginning but I'm in the swing of things and loving it now.

Maybe it's a Southern thing :1orglaugh

I love that episode where Jamie Pressly enters the mother-daughter beauty contest for the lawn mower company. Her mother was dead so she carried around an urn of ashes. She pushed that lawn mower around in her bikini, it just killed me.

Wierd though that her mother shows up in another episode.

Love that show.Love Banky.
