Anyone know how to Fix this XP file?
I need to fix a file called services.exe that is causing my PC to use 70% of its CPU when nothing else is running.
Does anyone know how to fix without reformatting? I?ve already scanned with SpyBot and McAfee and all is clean. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, |

run filemon and regmon and see what services.exe is doing. Also use process explorer to be sure that this is really services.exe that is responsible. Also use sigcheck to verify that services.exe is not a compromised version.

I'm not sure if this would help, I have used it to replace critical operating system files that were corrupted. It looks at the installed version and compairs it to the original version and replaces it if there is a difference. My computer (a Dell) has a partition with the original files. If yours doesn't, then you will need your WinXP install disk.
You have to use the Command Prompt - it's in Accessories Just type sfc /scannow and Enter There is a space after the sfc Good luck |
