IE7 Beta Released

Are any of you gonna try it ? I use Firefox a lot, but I do use IE when I work on my pages since most home users use it.

Anyways, the new IE7 beta just got released, I'm downloading it now because I'm a sucker for anyting that's new, ha ha ha. Here's a link

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/...aredirect.mspx

pocketkangaroo 01-31-2006 11:57 PM

One of the cool things is if you click on a link for a phishing site it shows a warning message saying that this site is phishing.

BoyAlley 02-01-2006 12:03 AM

I just downloaded it now. I'll install it later.

Hope it doesn't shitfuck my computer.

Slick 02-01-2006 12:06 AM

Well, I just went ahead and installed it without any problems. It's definately a bit different. I have to juggle around all of my stuff because it looks a mess. The one thing that sucks which I didn't think of is that all of my passwords are gone, so I have to dig them up and re-enter them for all of my scripts.

It's late now, so I'll have to dig more into it tomarrow, I'm going to bed, ha ha.

Splum 02-01-2006 12:08 AM

I could never go back to IE after all the wonderful tools and tweaks Firefox has.

The Sultan Of Smut 02-01-2006 12:17 AM

I don't usually like the release versions of their software so I think I'll pass on this. From the screen shots I've seen they have just sort of copied FF anyway.

Jace 02-01-2006 12:20 AM

how bizarre, i can't access microsoft.com, but I can if I use the ip

webcrawler 02-01-2006 12:25 AM

I'm settled with FF now. Thanks anyway.

tony286 02-01-2006 12:26 AM

i tired it i prefer ff

Doctor Dre 02-01-2006 12:36 AM

I'ma wait till the final

xclusive 02-01-2006 12:52 AM

i've used it for a little while and it shows a lot of promise but still some tweaking needs to go on

Check your host file it's located in c:\windows\i386 I think. Probably contains
a lot of stuff that is not supposed to be there.

This file should only contain something like 127.0.0.1 localhost

:thumbsup

solonline 02-01-2006 01:56 AM

Just been reading news threads on the beta, looks like a shed load of bugs still. Im gonna wait this one out.

SGS 02-01-2006 01:57 AM

Will give this one a few weeks to iron out the problems first but should be interesting none the less.

pocketkangaroo 02-01-2006 01:58 AM

Yeah. One of the problems is that if you add other toolbars like Googles, it throws everything back to default positioning when you open a new browser.

KRL 02-01-2006 02:02 AM

You have to be crazy to install beta versions of software. Nothing but headaches and PC fuckups, especially from MS.

I'm sick and tired of having so many security patches, upgrades, updates.

WTF?? Stop, enough already.

Firefox is so much better.

mayon 02-01-2006 03:40 AM

im gonna wait till the reviews pours in :)

its obvious whats you gonna get with beta version..

CheeseFrog 02-01-2006 04:53 AM

Been using it for about an hour now and it's obvious they tried to take some functionality ques from Mozilla... But they didn't quite get the execution down right. The UI is cumbersome and isn't as intuitive as FF. FF's UI is straightforward and easy to use. IE7 has the same features, but they're poorly implimented, and the performance leaves a lot to be desired. Maybe it's just the debug code that's still in it, but FF blows away IE7 in terms of load speeds.

fuck 'em, Athlon optimized version of firefox works great for me, 10x faster and better than IE6, IE7 is probably even slower...

athlon optimized? where is that?

The funny thing about IE is that I'm now using WinXP Pro 64 bit, with the 64 bit IE browser.... I can no longer test any popups on sites because it appears to defeat all of the popup scripts... even the ones that beat Firefox's scripts.

You need "p3 build" and make sure you don't accidently get beta version 1.6, it's been unstable for me...

mattyboy 02-01-2006 08:27 AM

Does beta version store form based user/passes like FF does?

Slick 02-01-2006 08:54 AM

For those that downloaded the browser, am I stupid or am I missing the option to put a "check email" icon in the browser, I've been looking for a while no and I can't find any way to do it.

sfera 02-01-2006 08:57 AM

im sticking with ff

bjjb 02-01-2006 09:00 AM

Fuck the new IE. I tried it a few months ago and it killed my sound card. I tried everything and the only way I got it back was a clean install of XP. I wont install that shit till im forced to lol

IWantU_Jeff 02-01-2006 09:17 AM

downloaded it, I'll probably give it a spin. But anyone trying has to realize that it is beta... so there will be problems..

Whoa.. this is nice! It loads VERY fast! Thanks for the link. I'll have be sure to book mark this :thumbsup

Baker Rd 02-01-2006 09:37 AM

why would you come into a thread about IE7 just to say you use firefox? i'm amazed some of you make it through the day alive

Cash 02-01-2006 09:56 AM

I'll stick with Firefox :)

GatorB 02-01-2006 10:45 AM

Bugs? That's why it's called beta. Anyone downloading a beta of ANYTHING an then is somehow surprised that it has bugs is an idiot. If you find a bug report to MS. That's kind of the whole point with a beta.

Sorry I've tried FF and it sucks. PERIOD. Honestly I've given FF an honest shot( several times I might add ) and I can't stand it. Not to mention it's slow as fuck compared to IE 6. FireFox's numbers continue to fall so if it's so much better why is that?

"But in the U.S., Firefox dropped dramatically; its share fell 1.52 percent, from 14.1 percent in November to 12.6 percent in January 2006. "

Hmmmmm. Why are people dumping FF if it's so great? So even back in November when the usage was higher only 1 in 7 people used the "greatest browswer of all time". Hmmmmmmmm.

That was the first beta. You weren't even supposed to have it. It was for developers. So YOU are to blame. Where did you get your copy, some site that probally added a virus or two to it?

candyflip 02-01-2006 10:48 AM

FF seems to be a resource hog on my box. Gonna check this out and see how they compare.

Red Snapper 02-01-2006 10:57 AM

i use am browser. I like it better than IE and FF check it out at

It is. Especially when you add all those fabulous extentions FF lovers like to add.

Just wondering is a RSS reader standard in FF like it is in IE7 or is it an add on? I'm actually asking.

WebairGerard 02-01-2006 11:11 AM

FF and Opera are better options IMHO.

Totally agree. I've given it multiple chances because of the hype and it's a slow pile of crap compared to IE. If you have no common sense and constantly get spyware, then yes, you should definately stick to Firefox.

Antonio 02-01-2006 12:36 PM

downloading, thanks for the link

Again, I have to ask, am I missing where the email icon/link is in the browser ?? I looked in the customize section, but there's no mail icons I can add. Perhaps I'm just not looking in the right spot ?

Other than that, this is starting to grow on me, I have no problems at all so far, it seems to be working fine.

Holy fuck, are you serious? That looks bad... really bad.:2 cents:

Lance69 02-01-2006 01:31 PM

Just had to do a system restore, (thank god it did it automatically,) just to uninstall it after it crased my computer. Missing DLL files no functionality at all. Just won't go. Error after error. Plus when trying to uninstall, all I got was please switch to another user account to uninstall. Even though I have only one account on my PC and that is administrator. Hence lucky I had a resore point, then it would uninstall.
Bugs I expected but it can't even install or uninstall properly. Checking the Microsoft Knowledge base, I'm not the only one!
As for why only 1 in 7 people use Firefox. Probably because most people don't even know how to install a program on thier computer. If the IE Icon wasn't on thier desktop they'd never get on the net! Let alone even know what a "Browser" is. That's only funny cause it's true!
