Oslo, Norway, 40% more expensive than New York!

The biannual survey, which covers 130 countries, found Oslo, Norway as No. 1 in terms of cost of living. Tokyo fell to No. 2. The last time Tokyo did not lead all other cities was in 1991 when, due to an overvalued official currency exchange rate, Tehran briefly led the charge.

New York was No. 23

I'm not surpriced, the country has been ranked as the best country to live in for the last 5 years and has a plenty of oil. I wouldn't mind living in Norway myself.

More about Norway

It's sickening, isn't it. Average income is probably like 1700?/month before taxes.
First we pay mad amounts in tax, and on top of that we pay outrageous gas prices, and possibly the highest car-tax in europe... but that's ok since everything else costs a shitload too.

Small income + huge taxation + high prices = good place to live?

Yay for Helsinki.

andrej_NDC 02-01-2006 09:06 AM

except real estate, USA is one of the cheapest countries...so no surprise

reynold 02-02-2006 06:52 AM

Not surprising, though... Way to go Norway!
But then, there is no place like home.

Michael O 02-02-2006 08:12 AM

Copenhagen is #7 then add the tax rate of 49% :/

JuiceMonkey 02-02-2006 08:54 AM

what's in norway anyways? I have such a stupid vision of it in my head right now... need to shake that ;)
