Lesson on how to use ICQ for business.

Just a quick tutorial on how to use ICQ for business.

1. Not everyone is glued to their fucking keyboard, some of us have models to shoot or tea to make. Don't assume if it says we are there we actually are. We might be busy.

2. If no one comes straight back with a reply to your "HI are you around". Leave a fucking message if it's important, if it's not WTF are you bothering me for a chat???? :1orglaugh

You can leave me a message, regarding what you want to talk to me about. When I get back to the computer I can answer it and if you're there we can carry on, if not no problem you have my reply and you reply and we carry on from there.

How hard is that?

OK I got that off my chest I will go back to being my usual happy self. :1orglaugh

JFK 02-01-2006 08:03 AM

I am so happy to hear , that you are your usual happy self:1orglaugh

lesson on how to use icq #2

if you are busy or not available at the moment enable the "NOT AVAILABLE" or "AWAY" flower so that everybody can see that you are not there.

vidvicious 02-01-2006 08:09 AM

good point Paul ..

number # 3 .. if all your using ICQ for is small talk ... Ask how bussy the other person is, before going on and on about how your cat stepped in poop ... Would't want the "how can I help you" reply to hurt you and your dear kitty's feelings

"away" gets enabled after a few minutes inactivity anyway

"AWAY" automatically comes up if I'm not at the computer after 5 minutes. After about 15 it goes to N/A extended away.

I could be in the middle of doing something important on my computer, so even if it has the green online flower I could be busy.

darksoul 02-01-2006 08:26 AM

and the most important lesson
Don't advertise icq support if you're too busy to provide it.

EroticySteve 02-01-2006 08:27 AM

Great points.

~Ray 02-01-2006 08:29 AM

you meant... how I want you to use ICQ when you contact Paul Markham.

Tanker 02-01-2006 09:19 AM

My niece thinks that if I am showing online I am there reading her messges.

she gets so mad moments after she messeges me if I dont respond LOL

I always wait a few just to fire her up

You can have ICQ support that doesnt mean its gonna be 24 hour ICQ support well unless it says that then yay you shouldn't

TurboAngel 02-01-2006 09:21 AM

I'm sorry I just wanted to chat.

:(

TheDoc 02-01-2006 09:25 AM

Being N/A or Away doesn't mean anything, webmasters will still message. And not all ICQ's set auto away / na messages. Mine doesn't.

It's fine to ask if the person is around, if they don't answer just leave the message. Then nobody has to play ICQ tag.

Kimmykim 02-01-2006 10:05 AM

What a stupid fucking thread.

eroswebmaster 02-01-2006 10:09 AM

Yeah I hate the "hi" post. It's like people who come over to your house unexpected and you're like...I wish you would have called first and they say..."I did call you."

You're like.."You did, I didn't get the message."

"Oh, I didn't leave one. I hate those machines."

E Guru 02-01-2006 10:21 AM

I hate it when people message me and just go "Hi" or specialy "Sup"

Just fucking ask what you want. Or atleast tie it together

"Hi, i need this or ask this"

Im not here to make friends im here to make money

Odie 02-01-2006 10:24 AM

lmao..is it rude if you don't finish a conversation and leave it?? :) I am usually talking to 30 ppl at once so I sometimes forget to go back and finish the conversation...what's the etiquette?? I always feel bad like I left them hanging lol

GlydeGirl 02-01-2006 10:51 AM

Wow... it's amazing that people are so bone-headed that you actually have to create a thread to talk about proper ICQ'ing. How many morons are on this site? Maybe we can qualify for "special" status?!? LOL

DamageX 02-01-2006 11:12 AM

sometimes people have cats that like to jump up on the keyboard and knock you off of away mode. Many times I'm not around and my cat is. Don't think I am ignoring you :) (also, this seems like it could be a great excuse) lmao

woj 02-01-2006 11:23 AM

Another useful tip is:

- when you ask for authorization, describe who you are and what you want.

NoWhErE 02-01-2006 11:24 AM

I need more information on proper ICQ etiquette. Could I add you to my ICQ? Is it ok if I msg you even if you're marked as n/a? I just wanna chit chat...

camon man... you haven`t answered in the last 5 seconds? WHere are you? Are you ignoring me? What are you doing? How's the weather over there today? Did you do your groceries? I've got this hangnail, its really bothering me. Have you ever had a hangnail too? Over here the sky is blue, what color is it where you live? Don't you just hate ICQ spam? A/S/L? I sale short ICQs.

pornguy 02-01-2006 11:26 AM

And for the love of fucking god, dont ICQ with a hi how are you doing do you have a sec, and then never say anything else. WHY THE FUCK DID YOU BOTHER?

Zuzana Designs 02-01-2006 11:40 AM

I love it when you are invisable for awhile and you come online and people act like you died.. 20 icqs come in all saying where ya been , whats up, are you doing alright .. Ummm yes this is why I stay invisable so i can work .. If you need me leave a message i will get back with you...

i never do it when asking a GFY'er, I assume he recognizes my nick...

breaker 02-01-2006 12:52 PM

I have no ICQ friends :(

J3XO 02-01-2006 01:05 PM

Who has the oldest ICQ number here ...

reynold 02-02-2006 12:50 AM

Thank you for the lessons. I'll keep them handy.

toddler 02-02-2006 12:58 AM

Couple of things to keep in mind folks: don't pass passwords over ICQ/AIM unless you are 110% sure your encrypted. Even then I wouldn't, because the person that you are sending to may A: not be who you think it is, and B: be rooted out the door anyway. Always call.

Me personally, I don't do 'business' via ICQ. I do it via mail or phone. ICQ/AIM/MSN/Jabber/Yahoo/et al can all lose your messages in transit. As we've all seen the results of here a few times....

Due 02-02-2006 01:21 AM

I found a pretty good setup.
I always have ICQ running, always on invisible.
I always answer messages, if I get just "Hi, you there" messages, it might take a few days, depends on what I'm doing and if I forget to reply or not, if I get a request/question about something, I answer right away when I'm at the computer.

Well I thought of GFY being the most obvious place to post it.

I guess that when ICQ was new, there was the novelty value and people weren't getting buried in messages. But now between the people who never show as online and the ones who always do (setup so they never display "away" or "n/a") you haven't a clue what is their real status, so no way to know if someone is ignoring you or if ICQ has screwed up again.

Anyway, it has gone from being one of favorite tools to something I never switch on unless I am asked. People who are easy to get hold of on ICQ usually handle their emails well too (and vice versa), and least with email it's easy to glance through my sent box and see who I'm waiting on.

Rui 02-02-2006 01:06 PM

You should write a ebook "ICQ for Bussiness - the golden rules"

Allow me to total disagree with you on that one...:2 cents:

Charly is the bomb when it comes to spam threads.
