What HDTV stations do you get?
I used to have satellite but they wouldn't allow me to get network channels (abc/nbc/cbs/fox) in HD so I have cable now and these are the only HD stations that I get,
ABC NBC CBS FOX DiscoveryHD ESPNHD HDNET HDNET movies (HBO & SHO HD are available also) The only true HDTV is over-the-air cause it's uncompressed but I can only get 1 channel with an antenna and cable is good enough. What HDTV stations do you get? |
I got cable (Charter) and I get what you have except ABC and FOX because they're smaller local affiliates which sucks, those are the main channels I watch :(
|
If I had an HDTV I could get about 20-30 via satellite.

What sucks about it is that I bought a nice 40 inch Samsung LCD tv, but it kinda sucks because the regular channels don't look that great. I checked into it and people say that the tv can work great with a HD signal, but when it's not, it has trouble with it and the picture looks a little grainy.

ABC
NBC CBS FOX ESPNHD those arent even hd, they just have hd programming (mostly primetime). when you buy the latest and greatest you have to wait for everyone to catch up. |
I only watch the network channels at primetime anyway so everything is in HD then.
I've got a hd front projector with a 92 inch screen and the hd stuff looks awesome but the regular channels kinda look like crap. It may just be because the hd stuff looks so good. |

digital cable is not mandatory. MSOs switch to digital because they can compress the signal and shove more channels into 1 frequency.
Also not all channels on the digital tier are truly digital. MSO /Cable companies/, at least Comcast, are doing what's known as Digital Simulcast - or simulcasting the analog channel lineup in digital. i.e. Channels 2 to 79 are analog but the cable company simulcasts them on the same channel in digital for which you need a digital set top box. The cutoff date for analog over-the-air TV is February 2009. Your local stations usually send their digital channel via fiber to the closest cable plant or via satellite and that's re-broadcast on the cable network, usually without additional compression. |
ABC
NBC CBS FOX DiscoveryHD ESPNHD HDNET HDNET movies HBO Showtime These are the norm on HD through cable in Tampa. It's an improvement beacuse when we first moved here 3 yrs ago they only had 2 stations that could be veiwed in HD. |
