Actors Suck... and so do their once a week award shows....
 

I can't stand actors. Getting your start is usually based on being lucky or who you know instead of you being the best at what you do. A lot of people can act but never get their break. At least sports players have real talent and are better then everyone else at their job. But they still get way over paid as well. Actors make rediculas money. Over paid, and over inflated egos. It also bothers me that some of these fools use their fame as a platform to speak to the masses about their political views. You are an actor you are not a political science professor, keep your uninformed, uneducated, greenpeace political views to yourself. Don't abuse your fame to spread propaganda to everyone, some of the people listening are stupid enough to belive what you are saying JUST because you played the president or a politician in one of your previous movies. On top of all of that the have to have an awards show, seems like once a week, so they can blow each other and inflate their egos even more.

Actually acting is a suck ass profession except for the elite. The Screen Actors Guild now has over 100,000 members, but the median income is only $25,000. Only about 10,000 of those members even have fairly steady acting gigs. Out of that only about 1,000 are in the league of over $100K a year, and out of that only a couple hundred can command 6 and 7 fig "star" salaries.

Its not a good career choice at all unless you have a connection to someone already in the biz with a lot of power who can get doors opened for you.

The money the handful of elite actors gets is way up there. Because of her Oscar win Reese Witherspoons new rate just jumped to $29 Million per film for example.

so basically from what you are saying the SAG has 1,000 people with inflated egos and 99,000 people who think the other 1,000 are really really cool!

And from your information i change my feelings towards all actors to just those 1,000 who make a lot of money from it ;)

I would grant you that there probably are countess great actors currently unemployed however quite a few actors received jobs last year in major motion pictures and the Oscars and SAG's, Golden Globes etc reward the best of those. Phillip Seymore Hoffman and Reece Wistherspoon did a terrific job in their respective movies. They might have received a break or got "lucky" by being discovered but they arent winning best actor because of their connections, its based on their performance.

As for being overpaid, wouldnt say that either. Tom Cruise can command $25 million for a film because he can "open" a picture. The studio can pertty much assure a $30 million plus opening weekend and $100 million domestic gross. It goes down from there. Now that Reese Witherspoon has won an Academy Award her popularity increases and thusly she is in the public eye even more and the public can expect a quality performance thus increasing the box office. Therefore she can now ask for $15 million versus her previous $12 million.

Professional athletes on the other hand are overpaid. Both the film industry and professional sports are a business. They are here to entertain us and generate income for their owners, share holders etc. An athlete like Kobe Bryant or Lebron James is worth $16 million a year as they sell out arenas and the public will watch the games on TV and buy the merchandise. The lesser players like the 12th man earning the NBA veteran minimum of $1 million who plays 3.4 minutes a game is vastly overpaid.

Substitute the word "actors" in your post with "webmasters" and you can make pretty much the same point :)

the difference between actors and sports figures is this: actors will work even if they are not getting paid . . sports guys won't . . .

its just like any other industry operating on a "it's not what you know, it's who you know" policy. you just have to kiss the right ass

I guess you never heard of "college" which 99% of them play in and is pretty much a requirement before you play professional sports. No different then some broke actor playing in free local plays or something.

I always wanted to be an actress but never went to acting school when I was younger, my mother never asked me what I was interested in, she just put me in ballet and music lessons. It would have been better if I started as a child. Now I'm kinda old (even though I can pass for 18 still).

I wouldn't give a flying fuck if I sucked or if my acting was terrible. As long as I would be able to pull in 7.5 million per movie, as is the going rate for Lindsay Lohan and Hilary Duff, (yes these twats are making 7.5 mil a movie) that would be all I cared about.

I just call them twats because I'm jealous, but if I was making 7.5 mil a movie I wouldn't give a rats ass if my acting was great or not, as long as I got paid!!!

Those girls are lucky, all they do is shop all day for the latest Marc Jacob clothes and Chloe purses, or whatever the fuck is the style du jour.

I would care less about political agendas, I'd be too busy jet setting and shopping all day baby!

So I guess you're not a fan of movies. I am, my wife and I love to go to the movies. Same as I like to go to basketball, baseball and football games or watch them on TV. Do I think that the top actors and athletes are over paid? Yes. Do I think it makes sense to say I hate actors because they get paid too much or because of Hollywood's rules? No.
