Converting NCTS to PAL
 

Does anyone know if it is possible to convert NCTS to PAL format. If you know how to do it and what equipment you need ,or where one could send mini dv tapes to get it done, I would greatly appreciate the help.

can't you dump it in whatever format, and use something like Sorenson Squueze to convert it?

I am not sure. I need to be able to take exisiting footage shot on mini dv camera in NCTS and convert it to PAL so that we can distribute DVD's in the UK.

mmm if you upload to your system and then convert it to PAL wouldn't that be the same? *NOTE* I've never done it but would think this is possible.
Also, I think TMPGenc has that feature to convert from NTSC to PAL.

NTSC is 29.97 fps
PAL is 25 fps

once you dump the footage into your computer you should be able to change the fps before outputting back to tape or encoding to a different media.

To clarify, you'll also need to change the pixel aspect ratio and frame sizes too

NTSC is 29.97 fps 724x486 frame size with a 0.9 pixel aspect ratio
PAL is 25 fps 720x576 frame size with a 1.? pixel aspect ratio

its very easy to do, in vegas you just render it to pal

Have any of you done it before, and if so, what software did you find the best to use.

any prg like ulead or adobe has will do it, set the framerate size and thats it.

and DONT add a region code cause it wont play in EU, youre on 1 were on 2 and the dvd players will reject the disk.
