Is this a good laptop? What's the skinny on Gateway?
 

I was just looking at e-Bay and I came across this. Looks like a good deal to me. Can I get some opinions? Thanks in advance. :)

My friend has a gateway desktop ... and he loves it !!

his modem stoped responding after about a year ... and they FED EXED him a new one NO QUESTIONS two days later ...

actually I know a few people with gateways ... never heard anything bad about them ... but don't know about their laptops.

Gateway's business is in the crapper and it wouldn't surprise me if they filed for chapter 11

I've got a Gateway laptop and it's a piece of shit. Some of the buttons stopped working, the DVD player had to be replaced and still doesn't work sometimes, the screen fails to come on a lot.

Buy a Dell, they make a MUCH better computer.

Gateway sucks.

i cant say anything about gateway other than they're inexpensive, i dont know about the quality though.
i have a dell laptop and its going alright. 8 out of 10.

I'm thinking that maybe like all products, there are going to be good and bad experiences... The bankruptcy thing wouldn't bother me, though, as I don't think it comes with a warranty... hmm, now I should check that....

Any more opinions?

dont place a bid until the last 10 minutes in the bid if possible... once i sold a cal ripken auto card. and it did not get any bids for the whole week.. only one for 20.00 then the last hour of the auction the fucking thing went up to 400.00 and that is what i got... i have never heard anything bad about a gateway .... but you have to figure that if you can get it for a great price then you also get what you pay for ... hmmm

that was gonna be my strategy. :) looks like people are bidding now, though. I'm gonna have to keep my eye on it.

Lol... they are just competitors, just because one had problems with them and the other didnt doesnt mean shit! the components they use are still the same. there's ofcourse difference between Gateway and Sony Vaio, but goddamit, are you gonna pull out double the price for the "brand"? they will still replace components if they malfunction.
