Microsoft's New Search Engine vs. Google.com ??
http://www.live.com/
SEATTLE, Washington (AP) -- In its latest bid to catch up with rivals Google Inc. and Yahoo Inc., Microsoft Corp. is launching a revamped Internet search engine it says will help computer users find information faster, view it more easily and organize it better. Windows Live Search will power queries on live.com, Microsoft's Windows Live Web site, beginning Wednesday. Once the technology has been fully tested, Windows Live Search will replace the existing search engine that powers MSN.com. http://edition.cnn.com/2006/TECH/int....ap/index.html :smokin |
Fun.

Two other new test versions for Windows Live services -- Windows Live Mail and Windows Live Mail Desktop Beta -- will be available in March, the company said. Windows Live Mail, already in beta, is expected to go live on Friday to a wider audience with new features added at the request of customers, Microsoft said. Those features are the ability to view Windows Live Mail with a Hotmail user interface, and the ability to personalize the service by applying color themes to the user interface. Windows Live Mail eventually will replace MSN Hotmail, an e-mail hosted service Microsoft currently offers. Microsoft will release the first beta for another service, Windows Live Mail Desktop, in mid-March, the company said. The service is an e-mail client that is similar to Microsoft's Outlook Express offering and can work in conjunction with Windows Live Mail and other services. Windows Live Mail Desktop will make offline mail, account aggregation and other services available for free to Windows Live Mail users, Microsoft said. Microsoft introduced its plan to offer hosted services under the Windows Live moniker last fall. A beta version of Microsoft Office Live -- a hosted service offering small businesses Web-site hosting, e-mail, CRM (customer relationship management) and business intelligence -- also is available now. :smokin |

M$ has finally woken up it's nice to see:)
|
live.com is looking nice...
seems like they went AJAX-crazy LOL...but I like the result overall...the image search is neat!..(not sure its faster than google though, but its definitly a fancy interface!) |
Yeh, quite slow, eh.

When will MS learn that people want simple interfaces on the things they use often?
|

It is looking pretty slick though. |
been trying out their beta services, their live search is a handy but kinda slow (since they're in beta, i think) so far so good...
|
is it open too ppcers yet?
|
i think it sucks
|
Not bad, but rather slow.
|
I have used the live search, and found that it usually gives better results than google.

I think when Vista ships it's gonna be a bloodbath for Google. It's hard to compete with companies that has software integrated on the desktop. Especially when that company really makes the service up to par, which M$ has yet to do but looks like they are about to do with this next release. |

though I suspect that this is just a preview of what's more to come from the new search engine. certain, not something Google would be scared off.. for now :smokin |
Page one results :thumbsup I like it..
Only problem is that it is too slow to load. You try to search and find that the search term hasn't gone in right cos the full page didn't load. |
search results blow goat cock though - unfortunately. Maybe they'll fix them up before going live (hehe).
|
cool. I'm #1 on live, but nowhere in google. lol
|
how many people use hotmail?
They are mailing every hotmail member weekly about their new products. |
ms live still has a long way to catch up, but they might be on the right direction

the engine itself lacks something that google has long pioneered.. SIMPLICITY. but im not counting them out yet, we will see in the couple more years to come :smokin |

at Yahoo and Google be thinking right now. stocks up for M$? :smokin |
That was always Microsofts approach, "Hey it may not work well but it looks good!" Add all the nifty Ajax support ya want, doesn't make it fast and efficient. How many blackhat spammers are gonna be up in the top rankings? We shouldn't think about how quick the SE is, or how it looks, but how it will work from an SEO perspective.
|
Google will always be #1.
I wonder how many new SE are created daily. :) |
After trying to use it I have to agree. It's foo slow. Ajax is nice for some apps, but not search.
But my real question is how does a company with a $6 billion dollar a year R&D warchest not know that already before they release to the public? |

It is beyond belief. 2hp |
Didnt seem that slow to me...
|
how many people see a deal in the future between MS & google........squeezing yahoo out? I can.
|
I can't see Google and Microsoft ever making a deal. Google's heading the exact same direction as M$. The only difference in strategy is they are taking a platform agnostic approach... which is smarter in this day and age.
For instance: Google aquires Writely and it will probably aquire Dabble next. It's shaping up to be the next generation office. When they perfect this, how long do you think it will take major corporations who spend waaaaaaaaaaay too much money on Windows licenses to stop paying the fee and go Linux? I say 5 years max if Google gets it all right. |

of months until they released a service pack for the engine :winkwink: :1orglaugh :smokin |
Nightsurf the only ad. Sure that will change. Nightsurf being the #1 ad won't. Leave it to MS to screw advertisers.
