8 Terabytes & Counting (PIC)
Claires desk has been taken over by Lacie
We now have 8 Lacie Bigger Disk terabyte drives on Claires desk. It?s getting out of control. It?s true what they say, give a video editor a new HD and watch them fill it up. MOST of this storage is used up and we need to buy more of these damn things. I am going to need to stick them into a closet on a server soon. http://www.stockimagelab.com/post/8_terabytes.jpg |
I have an Ipod bigger than that
|
I took your advice and bought one of them. It was dead right out of the box.
Luckily LaCie Canada is right around the corner and they fixed me up in 15 minutes. :2 cents: |
errrr....i hate my name.
|
huge ass things lol. Well I guess she atleast stays busy :)
|
When I bought my 2nd PC at CompUSA,,,it was a 486 dx33
The salesman talked me into upgrading the 5 meg hard drive to a 10 meg hard drive for $150 He told me that would be more storage than I would ever need. |
You need one of these man: http://63.135.127.48/Snap_Server/Products/18000.shtml
|
Man, you just have all sorts of toys don't you?
|
I need to look into getting me some of those, drive space is as good as gold.
|
Goddamn thats a LOT of video.
|
Thats a badass picture.

That is like $40k compared to my $10k outlay for the 8 TB drives. I think I will stick with Lacie for now. ;) I bet it's awesome though. Network attached storage is very cool. |
I get scared thinking about what would happen if they failed.
I just bought a P400T yellow Machine for the raid. |

For you guys you should build a SAN your self with Raid for backup. |

Maybe your video editor should learn project management :Oh crap 8 TB is alot of video... and I mean, ALOOOOOOOOOT |
Funny story.
I had a friend that worked for Sputnik7 back in the day and they had 1TB of storage. It took up a whole closet and was over $100,000 or more if I rememebr correctly. That is only going back like 5 years or so. It is crazy to think that you can fit 8TB on your desk. |

Believe me she needs it all. Project management like that would slow her down. Between the raw captured vids and the various compressed formats she deals with 8 TB is not even enough. |
wrong place sorry :)
|
How much do you pay per drive?
|
Damn.. but you can never have too much space :)

Lol need help with all that video editing? |
You can never have enough back up files. If you are a decent editor you will be filling up hard drives at a rate of knots.

once you get into High def video you'll need a couple just for scratch disks. :winkwink: |

Proper Time codes+Project files on CDs or DVDs= saves you THOUSANDS on HD space |

I have 3 of those and a Lacie Firewire 800 adapter. I've had 3 RMAs and had to replace the adapter on my own. Yup, 4 total products from Lacie and 4 total failures. You're living dangerously.
Might want to consider a RAID setup with a bunch of SATA drives before you loose days worth of work. |
I have had a few small issues with my Lacie drives but overall the failure rate is low in my experience. I have been using their stuff for years with great reliability.
I guess everyones experience with them is different. All project files are backed up daily, just captured and compressed video taking up all the space :) |
Damn i only got 1tb :(

This is a serious shit u know!
