Kimmy Kim says that literate Britons dont understand what the term 'British' means
Next she will be saying that literate Dutch dont understand the difference between Holland and the Netherlands are.
We have a free education system here and we do understand. Thanks for your concern Kim. I will personally educate all Dutch and British for you. |
Can every British person who is literate post in this thread if they understand the difference. If you dont understand then you cant post as you cant read anyway.

British often use the term 'British Race' but they do mean nationality at the core because it is debated time and time again about what it takes for an Indian person or a black person to be considered part of the British race.
Also, race is just as much of an issue here as in the States but I think a lot of us that live in London forget how different London is from the rest of the country. Racial slurs are used all the time on the streets, for example. |
So what does the term 'British' mean then ??

well she is sort of right , the british dont understand the word british the same way americans dont undertsand what "american" means..
I think she just meant that brits dont understand what OTHERS mean by british , but thats the same way with any country i suppose.. outsiders always have a different view. |

PS Don't rely on an "American" to explain nationality or race - they keep called themselves "American" cos they ain't got a real nationality! :1orglaugh Sorry KK! :winkwink: |
I can remember when Celtic were the first 'British' team to win the European Cup - but when Man Utd won it, they were the first English team to do so and Celtic became the first Scottish team to have won it.
Jackie Stewart was always British when he won a race but Scottish if he retired from the race. James Hunt on the other hand was always English, as were Nigel Mansell and Hill. Barry Mcguigan entered the ring as the British champion, but left it as the defeated Irishman |

this might be of help. thanks to wikipedia!
"British" can be used for: * Someone or something from the island of Great Britain * With its original meaning in the geographical term British Isles * As a descriptor of British English dialects collectively, or of the extinct Celtic language now called "British" or Brythonnic * Brythons, the indigenous Celtic people of Great Britain * Someone or something from one of the modern United Kingdom's predecessor states, these being - * The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland * The Kingdom of Great Britain |
