Summoned For Jury Duty

i used to get out of this, now that i live in a different county i actually have to go in. anyone ever tell them you do porn when they question you? does that ever get you out?

chowda 03-15-2006 02:56 PM

tell them u hate all races. that seem to work well for homer

baddog 03-15-2006 02:58 PM

Just tell them you are self-employed and that it would be a financial hardship. You don't have to mention porn.

After Shock Media 03-15-2006 02:59 PM

I am one of those that feel you should do jury duty whenever called. Yeah it sucks and yeah it takes up valuable time. I just want to do my part and I hope that if I am ever sitting in the defendants chair again that I too will get like minded people and not those who were not intellegent enough to find a way to wiggle out of it deciding my fate.

G-Rotica 03-15-2006 03:00 PM

Have you ever been robbed?

Yes.

Does that make you predjudice against anyone being tried for robbery?

Hang 'em all.

Your Honor, we'd like to excuse juror #4

RRRED 03-15-2006 03:00 PM

Yeah racism is key!

That's the problem. you ARE stuck with people that were not smart enough to get out of jury duty. Kind of scary.

it states "no excuses from jury service will be allowed based on occupation or religion"

GlydeGirl 03-15-2006 03:02 PM

I was called for Jury duty, but there were so many of us as potential candidates that they filled the roster before they ever got to asking me any questions. Not a big deal at all!

I have faith in my reality that there are some people out there like myself who want to do their part in the legal process.

Tom_PM 03-15-2006 03:05 PM

I got a letter that I have to fill out, or fill out on the web, or answer on a phone call.
It's like a pre-summons questionaire thing. I REALLY wish this had gotten lost in the mail or something! grrr I dont want to deal with it.

Tom_PM 03-15-2006 03:06 PM

I'm happy to do my part, but I'm unhappy that they might choose me to do my part! lol. If that made sense.

WebairGerard 03-15-2006 03:06 PM

I just went. I was there one day and they settled all the cases I was done by lunchtime. Don't have to go again for 6 years.

I don't see financial hardship listed there.

wedouglas 03-15-2006 03:12 PM

Most gay people don't get picked anyway.

Stamen 03-15-2006 03:15 PM

Last time I was summoned I sat in the waiting room for 8 hours, then they said the judges were done for the day and sent me home. At least I don't have to do that again for a few years, complete waste of time.

Hollywood Horwitz 03-15-2006 03:16 PM

My laywer friend says you don't have to call the number on the jury duty form, you can always claim you never got one and he said they will most likely move on to someone else if you dont respond. not sure if any of this is the truth but its gfy so i'm sharing...

Agreed.

I was selected and served on a trial last week. Honestly, the whole experience was great! I found the case quite interesting, and would certainly do it again. Much like a real life "law and order" where I got to decide the outcome of these people's lives. I did my part to society and was on my way!

What I found funny were the people there obviously trying to get out of duty during the selection. The lawyers really laid into them as if they were on the stand themselves! I was seriously embarrassed for them! The lawyers were obviously out to make them look stupid for trying to weasel out of service.

I'd say do it... You may enjoy yourself!:thumbsup

Its better to go in and talk about government conspiracies and how the criminal justice system always fails, how insurance companies and big companies always take people and how some people deserve to be murded, robbed, raped and/or stabbed. The state will kick you off in a heartbeat, as they'll be worried you'd aquit.

Your lawyer friend is misinforming you. . . . at least in the State of California

Mr Pheer 03-15-2006 11:16 PM

I just went last tuesday. Had to walk three blocks from juror parking, then sat in a room till 10:45 when they told half of the people to go to lunch till 1:30

the rest of us sat there untill 11:30, then they said we were done, go home and thanks for coming. I never saw a court room or talked to a lawyer or judge. then had to walk 3 blocks back to my truck. Next time, I'm calling in, I'm not walking 6 blocks round trip. If they cant do better than that for people like me with steel plates and screws in my knee then I'm simply not going. Shouldnt have to go thru pain to be a juror.

PussyTeenies 03-16-2006 01:39 AM

sucks to be you at this moment :)

glad we dont do that over here

leroytrolley 03-16-2006 01:42 AM

I've done it, and had to visit scene of the crime. Got put up in a really swanky hotel. Happy Dayz.

I really enjoyed the whole experience.

just pretend that you are mentally ill. that way, they will never bug you anymore.

ronaldo 03-16-2006 09:52 AM

I got summoned about a month ago for right around Phoenix Forum. I simply told them I would be out of town on business and they let me go, no problem.

However, while I do agree I wouldn't mind sitting on a jury, it's my feeling that jurors should be paid accordingly. The judge, lawyers, bailiffs and everyone else is getting THEIR regular wage and I AM paying my taxes (which is another "Civic duty").

I'm not talking about paying me my regular wage, but not being paid ANYTHING for five days and then $20 per day for the duration is utter bullshit. Minimum wage should be the LEAST amount jurors are paid for their time. :2 cents:

tristan_D 03-16-2006 07:50 PM

I can imagine how it would suck to be confined away from your family until the case is over

Pete-KT 03-16-2006 07:52 PM

Tell them your self employeed and that it will cost you to be away from the computer
