How much did it cost you to get your Plasma TV wires through the wall?

I am thinking of doing it, but I have no idea how much it costs.

how mcuh did it cost you to get your plasma/lcd tv wires through the wall?

thanks!

jimthefiend 03-18-2006 04:37 PM

Do it yourself, it's not complicated.

OneHungLo 03-18-2006 04:37 PM

I think it was about $300.00

Furious_Male 03-18-2006 04:40 PM

That would depend on your house. If you have access to an attic or crawl space it isn't that hard or expensive at all. Cathedral ceilings etc. can run you more.

Daruma 03-18-2006 04:45 PM

depends where your located - $700 for 3 of them for me

hova 03-18-2006 04:49 PM

I cost me about 500 euros, but they had to do some other wires too

DeadFidel 03-18-2006 04:57 PM

Way too many variables to take into consideration. Each has it's own cost. I paid 5 cbucks for two.

tical 03-18-2006 04:58 PM

$0

its easy

1. mark where you're going to mount the tv
2. cut a small hole in this area
3. cut a small hole close to the outlets or whatever by the floor
4. mount the tv
5. run the wire straight down and pull it out of the bottom

done, just make sure you use those little plastic bezels or whatever they're called so your hole looks nice n neat

Rebecca Love 03-18-2006 04:59 PM

three fiddy......I am not lying either.:thumbsup

solkimaras 03-18-2006 04:59 PM

200-300 professionally

0 - yourself

eddie-executive 03-18-2006 04:59 PM

Assuming your digital cable box, dvr, surround sound reciever is like 2 or 3 feet under your tv its easy. I hope people in this thread didnt pay $300+ to fish a wall 3 feet:1orglaugh

If your components aren't directly underneath you have to go up from the tv into and attic and down, or up from the basement. If you have a 3 story house and the tv is on the 2nd floor thats gonna be some work.

GTS Mark 03-18-2006 05:31 PM

I had our install guy throw it in for free, it's the least they can do for the money I spent on my system LOL!

DH

Fah King 03-18-2006 05:36 PM

here in MTl I paid 500$ and a guy from Future Shop Tech team came and isntalled it.

SleazyDream 03-18-2006 05:40 PM

tecks did it for my speakers - about $300

minusonebit 03-18-2006 06:34 PM

Anyone who spends $500 to run 3 wires 10 feet has more money than brains. If you dont have time to do it yourself or dont want to, at least get a good rate. Good god, this makes the AT&T's install labor rate of $109 an hour look cheap.

Why 03-18-2006 06:54 PM

its a very simple thing to do if you know anything about contruction.

pornguy 03-18-2006 06:57 PM

I dont have a plasma. And dont know what I would do with one. It waould rust here so freaking fast.

yea, but you need tools and half a day to waste in order to make it happen...

Herb Kornfield 03-18-2006 07:20 PM

$20 an hour ... Its great to have in house maintence guys.

HAPPYPEEKERS 03-18-2006 07:25 PM

Morgan 03-18-2006 07:25 PM

my handyman is $35.00/hour

he can do anything from running wires to building custom cabinetry! known him for 30 years.

crockett 03-18-2006 07:31 PM

It's really a simple procedure..do it yourself

detoxed 03-18-2006 07:42 PM

Usually installtion includes the wall mount brackets also, FYI.

BigBen 03-18-2006 07:53 PM

Do it yourself. Shouldn't take more than twenty minutes.

I agree if the brackets are thrown in it's worth just having them do it.

uni9 03-18-2006 08:50 PM

Did it myself, not that hard at all.

austinth 03-18-2006 08:52 PM

i just said fuck it and bought the matching stand for my viera plasma. In my next house I will pre wire it my self ahead of time. If you have an electronic cable wholesaler in your area call them to see how much there cables are. they have the monster cable stuff at much better rates then say best buy, plus they may know an electrician who does work on the side.

Spunky 03-18-2006 08:53 PM

What's so hard drilling a hole and pulling a wire through it? All you need is a measuring tape and a screwdriver to mount the brackets..geez,a chimp could do it :)

Ray@TastyDollars 03-18-2006 09:32 PM

$3 for a junction box, $4 plaster, $1.50 sand paper and $40 paint. Did it myself. Its pretty clean actually, all wires including the the A/C plug run up inside my wall and behind my TV. There are no wires showing.

Ray

Matt 26z 03-18-2006 09:48 PM

Real men do this themselves. Even girly men do it themselves. I'm not sure where that leaves the people who paid $300-$500 to have it done.

HDADULT 03-18-2006 10:15 PM

Lots of variables. I dont think anyone mentioned firebreaks. If you run into those its a total pain in the ass.

buddyjuf 03-18-2006 10:55 PM

the tv is already mounted on the wall, I did that myself, but the wires trhough the wall, I dont want to risk making it look ugly, so I want to get a pro to do it for me!

Rictor 03-19-2006 12:36 AM

Fuck mounting it to the wall. Get a stand...you need a place for your PS2, Xbox, DVD player, cable box, and TIVO anyway. Then, in 6 months when you decide to rearrange the room or get new furniture, it won't be a pain in the ass to put the tv in a different spot.

A screwdriver and measuring tape is all you would use to mount a television to a wall? What do you think, you're hanging a picture?

If you think you can't do that, then make sure you know someone who could and won't ask much.

Ray

I do agree - do it yourself
but unless its drywall, you'll have to go the route of Ray - chase out the wall, put the wires through a protection tube then plaster over. All very cheap, though $40 for paint is a major underestimation... every time I do shit like that and paint over the bit of plaster, it shows that the entire room needs repainting and what was an hour job turns into a major weekend headache and earbashing from the wife on what colour to repaint in :Oh crap
