where do single guys live... ?
not that i expect any serious replies but i thought id post & get this off my chest. who knows maybe someone has some advice for me...
i currently live in a 2 bedroom duplex, surrounded by old people, and i hate it. since i live in a college town, 99% of the apartments are inhabited by college students. (not always a bad thing, but i do like peace & quite sometimes). id rather have a nice house in a normal family type neighborhood, where i can wash the car in the driveway, play some bball, go for a swim, etc... and i even have a vacant lot i purchased a long time ago, and would like to build on. but i have 2 problems, and they both stem from being single... 1. zoning restrictions for the neighborhood say i have to build a fairly large house. wtf am i gonna do with 4000 square feet? 2. i know several people in the neighborhood, and they have told me point blank that if i build & move in they will make my life a living hell. they say (and i quote) "a single man has no business living in a family neighborhood where there are children" .... aparently being a single male automatically makes me a pedophile or something??? legally of course they cant do shit to me since im NOT a freak, and i could probly make their lives just as much of a hell for harassing me, but i dont know if its worth the hassle just so i can build a house. i just wanna live in a nice neighborhood with neighbors who i can actually talk to, not wage war against... and, ive run into this attitude a lot, not just in this neighborhood, but in others i looked at... which is why im still renting a duplex on a street of retiree's... is this common? soooo... i can buy another lot, or another house, or something but i really wanna live there. its gated, its secure, etc etc... i hate living in apartments and rentals, but it seems that as a single male im destined to live this way forever. any other single guys that DONT live in apartments or rentals or whatever? if so do u have a big house? small one? what? im really curious how my fellow single guys live i guess. *shrug* |
First design a large enough house that woukd satisy the zoning as it stands... but design it in such a way that it could be built in stages...
Then approach the zoning commission that handles that area and apply for a variance with a time frame on it, IE: 2 yrs for 2nd phase of the house completed etc etc. Tell them that you don't have the need for a larger house immediately as you haven't decided who you were going to settle down with. If they turn it down, appeal it until you get someone to listen. Third, go straight to the local cops as well as the sheriff and tell them of these 'helpful' neighbors and their thoughts on you living alone there and make sure its on record. Fourth build the house. Or you could check the dollar value of the lot and sell for a profit if you can find a more suitable area to live without the idiot squad. Sheesh and who would have thought architectural college would be needed in this biz! :1orglaugh |
Dawgy, what city do you live in?
|
You have several options. 1 do whatever you want, if they threaten you call the cops. 2. move 3. get married:Graucho
But as you said you want to live in a nice area with nice people around you, well sir, it sounds like they are a bunch of unsecure assholes who wouldn't be your friends anyway. It certainly does not sound like a nice place to live to me. If your not an ex-con and you have never done anything wrong, then tell them to eat shit and move. :ak47: Sex Sentry-Adult Verification Services :GFYBand Until my business picks up, if ever, I can't afford a house:2 cents: |

yeah yeah i know. i should just fucking move. but i have ties here. ugh. |
If you really want to build a huge house, well, make it a church and preach about what assholes my neighbors are until they change their ways and have wild parties after every surmon and ring the bell in the tower all night long.

You could at least just move down to the Woodlands which would put you just 45min to an hour from Houston. You could then be in the middle and have the best of both worlds! There are nice homes you can buy or rent for cheap that would put you on a nice lake and also put you very close to ball courts swimming pools and all the other amenities.
I am guessing you live close to Sam Houston. Am I right? |
live where you want
neighbors are highly overrated Last place I lived, the nearest house was about 8-10 acres away. I got spoiled. I want to shoot the dog next door, and I can't belive how fast people drive down my block (the old place was a bumpy dirt road). But all in all, I can handle it, because I see these neighbors about once/week. I work all the time, and when I am not working, I do my errands during off peak hours. I have seen some of my neighbors perhaps 4 times since Feb 1st. |

It sounds to me as if you are not going to move, so build the house and be a good neighbor and forget it!:glugglug

I live in NY but I lived in Southwest Houston for 3 years.

I dont know if this helps but fort lauderdale has a shitload of really nice homes in gated communities.
I would move there in a heartbeat if I could. |
I am not gonna read that long post. Stop looking for single guys and that will solve your problem.

If they don't like the idea of a single man living there, just think about how rough you'll have it if they found out it was a single man who made a living in the porn industry. Hope you get fire insurance..

Hmm... sounds like you need to move to Montrose.

Build the house, throw a huge party and invite the whole block (make sure it's suitable for children, no boos if necessary), they'll get over it quickly.
Kill 'em with kindness. |
Build the house, throw a huge party and invite the whole block (make sure it's suitable for children, no boos if necessary), and poison em.
Just kill em. You'll get all new neighbors and people will follow your lead in that neighborhood since you've been there the longest. |
