Which laptop should I get?

Need to get a new laptop, and i'm deciding between HP and Sony

Basically:

Sony Vaio

HP

http://reviews-zdnet.com.com/HP_Pavi...0.html?tag=nav
http://reviews-zdnet.com.com/HP_Pavi...5.html?tag=nav

I'm looking for a laptop that's durable, can travel with me, efficient, and the best bang for the buck. Any of these good choices or am I off?

Libertine 05-19-2006 02:42 PM

Sony beats HP, in my experience.

Although I'd go with a Mac any day.

I prefer PC over Mac...

Sosa 05-19-2006 02:47 PM

sony for sure. HP's suck ass

directfiesta 05-19-2006 02:49 PM

no brand opinion ( tough I own an HP zd-8000 ), but go with a 15.4 screen.

I had a dell 14" ( small ) and have now a 17" ( battery dies so fast - lesss than a dvd feature film).

I just got for a friend a Gateway Athlon 3400 , 512, 80 gig, ati, wqi-fi etc ... and paid 600.00 for it :)

Screaming 05-19-2006 02:49 PM

sony beats hp, but dell beats sony..

You could still go for a MacBook and use Boot Camp to run Windows on it :winkwink:

aico 05-19-2006 02:52 PM

The new Macbook or Macbook Pro.

The Ghost 05-19-2006 02:55 PM

I just picked up a Toshiba Satellite dual core two weeks ago (with the T2400) and am happy with the weight and battery life. It was around $1400 at Best Buy.

tony286 05-19-2006 03:07 PM

sonys run way too hot and are over priced, had one die after 2 yrs

Zoe_Zoebaboe 05-19-2006 03:21 PM

Ok...so it seems Sony or Toshiba is the way to go...

lukeol 05-19-2006 03:40 PM

Get a macbook or macbook pro. You will not regret it!!!

All mac laptops now come with a glossy screen option aswell :-)

nofx 05-19-2006 03:44 PM

IMO

get a Dell Inspiron 9300, you'll love it.

IMHO...I had a Power Book G4...and to tell you the truth....I hated it..and would not buy another one. Now I will say....they do make pretty laptops and desktops...but unless your into MAC....really they suck

hezochiah 05-19-2006 03:54 PM

I love Macs so that would be my choice, but between Sony and HP I would get the Sony.

Why did you hate it so much?

Personally I don't see how any rational person could use a mac and a pc for the same amount of time and come away saying "yea, pc is better"....

half the problem of switching to mac is that people have learnt so many bad habits over the years using windows.

All you gotta do is look at the feature list for Vista and you can see it's basically OS X tiger ripped right off.

The mac user experience is simply a million times better IMO. I'd advise anyone who's fed up with windows to give OS X a try, at first you'll probably not like it due to the reason above but after while it's simply far superior. It's really worth the effort and money.

madawgz 05-19-2006 06:29 PM

go with the Vaio :thumbsup

MaddCaz 05-19-2006 06:30 PM

can I get a good laptop under $700?

I need to buy a few new machines pretty soon..Prob just going to build a few

Vitasoy 05-20-2006 09:20 PM

I'd go with the sony if I was me

lulu36 05-21-2006 06:39 AM

hey zoe,

i've had lots of problems with my sony viao. its a great looking machine. really good for audio and visuals. but... as someone else said, it does run hot. and my motherboard died after 7 mths. and i don't use heavy graphics software.

my colleague had viao. he had lots of problems with it.

i've also owned a dell. it gave me less prob than the viao. but the fan eventually died. my exp. if a laptop lasts more than 2 yrs its good.

so, i think i'm going for a toshiba next.

Pete-KT 05-21-2006 06:41 AM

If your gonna get a PC go with a Dell, they have really good warranties and never had a problem with them, only thing is thought order through a business account so that you get US support not india Support, hit me up if you need an acount to order through

Shoplifter 05-21-2006 07:42 AM

I've had a Sony for a couple of years now and it's still going strong.

Matt-RevShare 05-21-2006 08:17 AM

Hey Zoe,

I have been using a Sony for the last year and its by far the best laptop I have ever had. I travel with it everywhere, its lightweight and the battery lasts long enough for a movie on the plane.

So that is about as strong of a recommendation as I can give.

BTW, I love that pic of you, me and Taylor on your myspace page. I hate I look like such an idiot, but at least in this pic, I have an excuse LOL!

Zoe - Nothing can touch the Macbook Pro and you can run Windows on it too if you really want to but once you get used to everything that Apple offers, you will not want to dear. And I can show you some amazing things that you can do with the Mac OS that PC users only dream of.

I love my Sony

pornguy 05-21-2006 03:56 PM

I have two HP laptops, and have done some hard traveling with both. One had the power supply go out on it. Known issue for that model, and also broke a hinge on the screen. Other than that both are great machines, and still running strong after 3 years of traveling.

The battery on them is not that great.

sweetmedialogan 05-21-2006 06:58 PM

My first choice is macbook. I've used sony's gear, usally sligtly more $$ then anything else, but decent quality. I'd get Sony over hp or dell. I used to like IBM, but I've been hearing bad things about then since they became lenovo.

Oh yeah?

Well, to be honest, I havent dealt much with Mac long enough to truly see whether or not it would be right for me. I've used it a couple times and I think I had problems with it because I wasnt used to it. Hmm.

Probono 05-21-2006 07:20 PM

MacBook is the best solution
