How to do online biz and still meet new people?

When i started in adult (almost 2 years now), i thought working from home would kick ass. It was kick ass for 2 years, i was so busy working that i had like no time for friends during that time. I never really returned their calls, ext. Well i did that because i wanted to give this biz 100%, no bullshitting.

Now, i dont have to do as much as before and i have so much fucking free time. I still have friends but they are still so fucking immature, broke potheads. I smoke pot but shit, not 24/7!! :Oh crap

So tell me, what is the best way to have a online biz and still meen NEW people. I am a people person, i like to be around people, no on msg boards! :disgust I was thinking about investing in a local club or something. Not only can you make $ but you can meet new people all day, its win-win i think.

People on msg boards, myspace, icq, aim doesnt count. I mean meet people face to face, interact.

xlogger 06-01-2006 11:58 PM

xLaborJames 06-02-2006 12:26 AM

how old are you, i experience the same thing with my old friends...

BradM 06-02-2006 12:29 AM

It's hard to meet mature people. I stick with a close knit group of a few friends who I trust.

WiredGuy 06-02-2006 12:32 AM

Let me know what you come up with, I have the same problem. Hell I got an office so I can socialize with people, but its still not enough.

I don't want to meet people. I actually hate most people. People are overrated.

I have met a ton of amazing people in adult over the last 4 years. By going to the shows and webmaster events I met a lot of people. Some that were strictly business relationships but in some cases I have made some really really close friends.

There are bound to be webmaster gathering some where near you. They seem to be going on at least once a month or more in most places. That is a good jumping off point as you can meet people who do similar things to you and who don't judge you for how you learn your living.

Now to meet people that are not part of this industry every day if you want to... go to the dog park (acquire a dog if you do not always have one). This is the best place to meet people of the same and opposite sex. You will automatically use your dog as an ice breaker. It will take 5 times longer to get a human's name from them but you will know their dog initimately after just one conversation. You may find some friends this way.

Or like you said a club. Join any type of interest group that shares your hobbies: book clubs, sports league, gym, art class, poetry reading, church group, animal rights activist... whatever turns your crank probably interests a ton of other people in your neighbourhood too. Find a local group that you dig.

The other in thing to do is to meet people online that are local to you and then once you get to know them arrange a meeting in a neutral spot and see if you are as compatible in person as you seemed to be online. Lots of people do that despite the warnings not to ;)

vanniety 06-02-2006 12:37 AM

join some business org.. if you're still under 40yrs old then you can join jaycees in your local area

Dude that sounds damn fun.

I am 21, and in a similar predicament. My friend are too busy studying/working/soul death, etc, to hang out. I am going to either form a team of webmasters and work on something new, or join a team. This can be the coolest work in the WORLD, but this no-new-people thing is a killer.

I did the same thing as you btw, 2 yrs of isolated work, not caring about hanging out/meeting people. Now its time to step it up a notch !

Cyndalie 06-02-2006 06:22 AM

Do what I did, join a dart league. Or pool league, or kickball league. Figure out anything you want to do to spend time with a variety of adults who gather for one common reason - to have a great time. And you might even get good at whatever the distraction is.

Basic_man 06-02-2006 06:24 AM

You should meet your friend's friends..

The Heron 06-02-2006 07:25 AM

Take some college classes! Sure the kids will all be interested in 'careers' and generally dumb but still the girls will be hot and young!
And since you don't really care about grades you can spend all your time planning parties ;)

OMG Jim 06-02-2006 07:40 AM

If you don't want all the responsibilities of owning or running a club take a quick bartending course, get a part time gig at your favorite bar/club and you can meet as many people as you want.

Good thing about bartending is that you can spend as little or as much time as you want talking to people sitting at the bar.:thumbsup

klixxxgirl 06-02-2006 07:50 AM

i thought viki and i were enough for you.... but nooooo.. looking for NEW friends now, eh? trader

hehehehe... seriously... good to hear that you don't need to work as much any more... just get out and do something fun - hobbies, school, whatever. Your idea with a club is interesting. However, do you think you will have time for it? Just think it through before you jump into it!

Chris 06-02-2006 07:52 AM

myspace!
hehe

no just set the weekends aside for some fun mang
and get a bb or a sidekick so incase you gotta do any biz you can do it real quick and get back to having fun

yup was in the same boat about 2 years ago. wasn't going anywhere didn't graduate highschool. but i knew i was a smart kid. so i got out and found me a pretty good job. the guys i work with are all 30-35 so naturally thats who i ended up hangin with. they took me under there wing and all that good stuff. life hasn't been to bad since then.

my friends on the other hand, like you said still in highschool mode. smokin' dope, working part time jobs just to get by so mommy and daddy don't give them the boot. i saw it all happening that way thats why i got out when i did. my best advice would be just get out meet the social crowd. hit up the gym, eat out at restaurants more often, hit up more local events, etc.. your bound to meet more people in a similar situation as yourself. :thumbsup
