Who can give me the best price on 10 megabits incl/ server?

Spam here please. I don't really want any ICQ sales calls. Just raw price data.

Jamie 05-27-2002 10:02 AM

Thumbserver Hosting

All of our servers a Dell 1650's, 1.13 Ghz, 1 Gig of RAM, 36 SCSI Drives.

AdultWire 05-27-2002 10:06 AM

What's the price for 10 megabits a second incl. server? That's what I'm asking people to post.

mike503 05-27-2002 10:10 AM

way2fast uses a distributed system to serve up content.. because of that, if i'm reading the website right, you can get 25mbit for $150 per month (+ rackspace which is $50-75..) so i guess you'd need your own box (i'm sure you could work out a deal where they built you a box and you send them a one time fee for it.. if you didn't want to hassle with building your own.)

that is damn cheap.. i'd look into that if i was you! :)

Just click on the link Jamie gave you and the price is right there.

XP 05-27-2002 10:15 AM

Way2Fast uses some kind of proxy, to save bandwith. Your sites will be always behind a proxy.

God-o-Sex 05-27-2002 10:17 AM

Compaq DL320 Dedicated Server w/Ensim
**Un-metered 10 mbps Network Connection**
PentiumIII 1GHz - 1GB RAM 40GB Hard Drive
Ensim Unlimited Domain License

$399 / month at Rackshack.net

Supposed to be a good deal :thumbsup

mike503 05-27-2002 10:19 AM

i host at rackshack. they're pretty good. especially for a DL320 with an unmetered 10mbit port for $400.

You got me excited there for a second Mike! I checked it out though and I believe that price is per MB. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

is that an issue though? :) it would probably be faster than normal (distributed server load and network usage.. as well as the connections will be optimized to a closer "net location" to the requester's machine..)

AdultWire 05-27-2002 10:40 AM

Can anyone beat $200/month? With or without a server?

who offers 10mbit for $200/month? or is that your ceiling? the cheapest i've ever seen for a normal dedicated server/colocation would be rackshack at @ $400/mo. there is of course the way2fast method too, which could get you a lot more bang for your buck it seems.

X37375787 05-27-2002 10:50 AM

My deal:

$120 per MBit including server - 1Ghz/512 MB RAM/36 GB hdd.

ICQ me if interested :thumbsup

AdultWire 05-27-2002 11:15 AM

Thanks guys.. but no-one's come anywhere close to what I'm paying, let-alone what I want to be paying.

Smegma 05-27-2002 11:21 AM

Then why are you moving?

a full 10Mbps feed, even at cogent pricing which is $30/Mbps, is $300 - with or without the server. if you are paying less than this it is suspect.

AdultWire 05-27-2002 11:24 AM

Redundancy. I'm not moving. I'm supplimenting.

Why don't you tell us who you're using ? Don't like your host and don't want him to make money ?

AdultWire 05-27-2002 11:31 AM

You're a moron. If you're so interested, lookup the IP block.

Cogent is $30/mbps in low quantities without haggling, so what do you think it costs in large quantities with a skilled negotiator?

I'm paying $75/mbps in EXTREMELY small quantities -- under 5mbps.. so no offense to the naysayers, but -- GO FUCK YOURSELF.

mike503 05-27-2002 11:39 AM

what good does a 10mbit cogent feed do if you don't have a data center or router to handle it? he wants a server + bandwidth supplied for him... he needs to buy from a company that handles the feeds (colocation/hosting/etc companies), not direct with the bandwidth suppliers..

ProgGod 05-27-2002 11:39 AM

Thats per meg pricing...

two misconceptions, our technology is not behind a proxy, people access your site directly. Basically a URL rewriter just rewrites your HTML and extracts the images url and replaces them with the location on a cache server.

Right now we are doing 10Megabits plus a dedicated server for $1200/month. Thats NON-CACHED straight tier1 bandwidth.

Hit me up if you are interested..

Try going direct to cogent these days, good luck. They are raising prices, and are very strict on who they take now. Plus you will need a data center close by you that is lit, then you will need routers, techs, rack fees, power fees, other miscelanious hardware. You cant get it anywhere near $30 mbs .
Big misconception.

Good luck in this business if your model only revolves around price and not speed ,uptime, and support.

Well said moose. This is actually a stupid thread, all the cheapest cogent idiots are all getting in an uproar?? and for what?? all this guy is asking for is CHEAP he could care less about any quality or stability, just CHEAP...LOL....who would even want to host him for those prices???..to much tech work and other costs for nothing but pennies??.......I love all the cogent freaks, they make me laugh.......:1orglaugh

Phil21 05-27-2002 12:16 PM

My deal would be the same as Smegma's. Good bandwidth, with an unbeatable peering policy.

Shut the fuck up. You don't know shit about my business model.

AdultWire 05-27-2002 12:48 PM

Let me expand on this. Some of you people are so fucking dumb that you REALLY BUY INTO this anecdotal sales babble about who's who and what's what in the industry.

Well I'm glad they're getting your dollar. You don't even know what I'm buying this bandwidth for, and you're criticizing me? Maybe if you all shut the fuck up for a few days, and watch how the big boys do it, you'll grow big enoughg to stop nipping at my heels, and tall enough to suck my dick.

Do you really think businesses cannot make a profit without you here to defend it?

I have years of experience buying bandwidth at gigabit+ commitment levels, so I know what kind of prices ISP's deal with. You are children fighting for scraps. Wake up.

If this place is a kindergarten, why do you bother posting and asking for a deal, Mr. Smartass ?

AdultWire 05-27-2002 01:29 PM

I'm making reference to the people who are arguing with me about the feasability of buying this bandwidth.. not GFY as a whole.

The idiots make up the minority here.. unfortunately, they make up the loudest minority.

AdultWire 05-27-2002 01:30 PM

BTW.. I was impressed with your company's responsiveness.. I'm considering making a deal with Nick.

mariuz 05-27-2002 01:42 PM

I only see one idiot here. And that is newbie adultwire.

telling people to
"Suck my dick"
"Your an idiot"
"shut the fuck up"

Yup i bet you have years of "perfessional expuriance" buying "gigs of bandwidth" talking like that.

justsexxx 05-27-2002 01:46 PM

1000 dollar for 10 MBPS Verio BW. Inclusing semi ded machine. Dual p3 2048 ram.

you ask a question, you get answers, than you call everybody name...

did I miss something?

AdultWire 05-27-2002 02:02 PM

Yes.. you missed the part where about 5-10 idiots who had nothing to offer decided to come in here ranting about how what I was asking for was ridiculous despite their obvious lack of knowledge about bandwidth purchasing.

If you know so much, then why would you need to ask anyone?

supernewbie!

foe 05-27-2002 02:07 PM

anyone know of fdservers? they use cogent though 100 bucks for 10 mbit

AdultWire 05-27-2002 02:07 PM

Thanks to mike503, god-o-sex, equinox, proggod and smegma who all provided valuable information, as well as those people who know how to post without being insulting little pricks just cause someone disagrees with you.

Thank you.

AdultWire 05-27-2002 02:08 PM

Fdservers? Never heard of them. Can you put me in touch? I want to find out more and check out their uptime statistics.

Once again.. you're being stupid.. The first step of purchasing bandwidth is communicating -- regardless of how experienced you are.

Wiredoctor 05-27-2002 02:14 PM

Why do some of you hosts even give threads like this a seconds thought??.. Do you really want to compete with cheap prices like this?? are you happy making pennies from your hosting business??...your just ruining your own future in the hosting business offering Low cheap prices like that. Let the cogent wannabie hosts deal with them, and then in a few more months they will all be gone. Let the real and stable Hosts stick to a fair price and profit for their quality hosting. The longevity of hosting must be considered, and not the quick buck. If a host wants to have a dedicated server, rack space, tech time and bandwidth costs be so low that they only make a few pennies off a 10mb/s customer per month, then let the idiots do it.

AdultWire 05-27-2002 02:15 PM

My buddy's having a bit of a crisis in his network center (I'm in canada.. b/w prices suck here at about 5x US prices).. anyways, I'm running out west to help him out.. if anyone else has offers that I simply must see, please email them.

I do appreciate all the positive responses.. despite my frustration with the naysayers.

mariuz 05-27-2002 02:16 PM

I think adultwire will be out of business before cogent goes. His success hinges on low price.

And his years of buying strategy got him as far as rackshack.

VeriSexy 05-27-2002 02:42 PM

What part of the US is your buddy in?

pimpshost 06-01-2002 10:13 PM

Well, you are already a customer, but since we have 2 facilities, I figure I'd give it a shot:

We have this deal:

$800: 10 Mbps
$200: Dual 1 Ghz PIII, Dual 60 GB IBM HardDrives, 1GB RAM

Since this would be your 2nd server, ICQ me and I may give you an even better deal.

Thanks :)
