Question about RSS feeds
Hey, I don't want to sound stupid here, but what (exactly) is the advantage of offering a webmaster RSS feeds? I know a little about them.
If someone can dumb it down for me and tell me why they should work...I will have them in OCCash within 2 weeks. |
well???????????????
|
1) Auto updates...
|
What do you get? Traffic... Not sure how well it does compared to TGP's...
Of course the people using them are all not thinking about the big picture. Without using some kind of Markov script to rewrite them, you are just gonna get dinged for duplicate content and get no SE traffic... |
Interested in more details as well. Bump.

Jay hit me up on ICQ, i'll explain
|
the main advantage is better parsing.
XML is pretty much standard this days and there are a bunch of tools to move content around. Its much easier to write scripts according to standards than make shittier parsers for each site to fetch content. |

What would you guys want as affilaites to have you adding occash blogs into your blog. Prewritten blogs with your refferer code? Hotlinked images / movies? Help me out here...I am trying to come up with some ideas that would be useful to you. |
Feeds aren't just used for blog entries, though this is what most affiliates use them for because you can use wordpress and a basic parser to get an automatically updated site going.
See this thread for a much more innovative use of RSS technology: http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showthread.php?t=626095 In a nutshell, we can use a feed to syndicate which webcams.com models are online and associated info for each model so that affiliates can parse the info to have a completely dynamically updated webcam front end. |

hi jay you weren't thread jacked, I was just illustrating what you could do with RSS feeds if you're a little creative
|
i dont use any rss feeds, because i dont want the same content as like 100 other blogs out there, all my posts are original, style of my own. but if people are going to use them for your affil program all the better, this is just a personal preference of mine

so, even though you provide me with a feed, my script will re-write what you have and make it original...rss2bloog and autoblogger pro both do this |

What webmasters want when it comes to RSS feeds:
We want full customization...so, when we enter into your affiliate area we see a bunch of drop down form options -choice of hosted gallery feed OR paysite updates feed -small, medium and large sizes for images...and a choice of using myultiple images or just one image -short, medium and large descriptions/posts -short, medium and long titles all of this would be options we can choose, and when we choose what we want we hit submit and it gives us a url of that feed that we created. so many sponsors just put up a feed of their latest hosted galleries, and while this is cool and all for feeder crap for my blogs, I never take it seriously, because it is always just a small thumb and a one line description. I LOVE paysite updates feeds...when the sponsor took the big paragraph they used to update with and create a rss entry for it with 1-4 images that link to either the paysite or larger images. and don't stop there...give us video update rss feeds to...I don't thiink there are any sponsor offering videos in their rss feeds yet |

http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showthread.php?t=620217 Attention all sponsors offering rss blog feeds A. If you do not offer an image, most will not use you. B. If you do not offer an image of decent size, most will not use you. C. If you do not offer decent descriptions in each post, most will not use you. So what do us rss feed users look for? What makes us rss feed users pick one sponsor over another? A. Large nice images. B. Good descriptions using proper seo practices such as using Bolding for phrases you want to get searches on. C. Regular updates, daily or at least twice weekly. Now Im not bitching, and I really appreciate when sponsors go out of their way to offer more options to affiliates, and to make it easier for us to advertise for you, but there is nothing more annoying then signing up for a program due to them having rss feeds and to find a 80x80 image that is used for their feeds. Most blog webmasters use 400x400 or even larger images in their own posts they make. So to put up a feed with a 80x80 image makes it purty obvious that, that post is not their own. So this post isnt so much a bitch, as it is an inside look into what I, and most other blog users Ive talked to, prefer when looking for new sponsors. If you want more sign ups from webmasters using rss feeds try and implement those few tips. Thanks again for all you do for your affiliates. |
hi JJ! I'm just being dumb. Don't have anything to actually dumb down 4U. (((jay)))
