NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - People who get tattoos from unlicensed sources are at risk of developing a drug-resistant bacterial skin infection, federal health officials warn.

Six recent outbreaks of infections with this "superbug," methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) have been traced to unlicensed tattoo artists, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

I see this being a problem even with LICENSED tatoo shops if they disregard state procedures. Probably a good idea to ask a lot of questions and DEMAND to see their sterilizing solutions etc.

If they use sterilizing solutions I'M OUT .... They use new needles and new tubes at most places everything else is cleaned in a Auto-clave. all new cups for ink and gloves ... anyone that would let someone work on them without seeing the packages opened deserves to get Hep-C ... because they're an asshole ...:2 cents:

I know you have been getting tattoos a while, but one of the dirty little secrets of tattoo studios is that needles are thouroughly sterlized every time, but a new needle is not always used...in fact, a lot of places will use needles up to 5-6 times before trashing them
