Atlantic City Casinos Ordered Closed will las vegas be next

Atlantic City Casinos Ordered Closed

TRENTON, N.J. -- New Jersey's state government was all but shut down Monday, with state lawmakers and the governor unable to agree on a state budget.

The two sides met for nearly four hours Sunday night but couldn't cut a deal.

As part of the dispute, Atlantic City's casinos have been ordered to close Wednesday.

The shutdown, now in its third day, is a result of the New Jersey Legislature's failure to adopt a budget by its July 1 deadline.

The head of the Casino Control Commission ordered gaming in Atlantic City to cease at 8 a.m. Wednesday if New Jersey fails to enact a budget by then.

Atlantic City's 12 casinos have appealed to the courts to intervene.

Gov. Jon Corzine said there's "no immediate prospect of a budget." New Jersey state parks, beaches and historic sites also were expected to shut down Wednesday.

If the casinos shut down, the state would lose an estimated $2 million in tax revenue each day they stayed closed. Republican Assemblyman Francis Blee, whose district includes the casinos, said it was important for them to remain open.

"We will have tens of thousands of individuals, real people, that are going to be hurt by this," he said. "There will be bread-winners who are not bringing home a paycheck."

Corzine shut down nonessential government services Saturday after the Legislature failed to adopt a budget by its July 1 deadline, leaving the state without the means to spend money.

Budget talks became heated this year as Corzine, a Democrat, proposed increasing the state sales tax from 6 percent to 7 percent to help overcome a $4.5 billion budget deficit.

The funny thing is the casinos bring NJ 2 million in tax rev a day but the government employees that have to be there are called nonessential . Two million a day makes them very essential to me lol

foxwoods is nice but mohgan has a younger/night life

fitzmulti 07-06-2006 09:37 AM

Whatever you do...DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE, you can barely DRINK AND POST! :helpme :helpme :helpme

New Jersey's budget situation, has NOTHING to do with Nevada or Las Vegas! And, likewsie, it has nothing to do with "shutting down gambling". Let's see, since the state offices in NJ are shut down, should the state offices in Oklahoma "be next"?

Don't think so!

CheneyRumsfeld 07-06-2006 09:43 AM

who cares?????????
plenty of online casinos.

Tanker 07-06-2006 09:44 AM

its simply a government budget issue

you should be more worried when congress doesnt approve a budget

I remember in the military being told our paychecks would be a week late because congress couldnt agree on a budget and were unautherized to spend money. That included saleries.

Tanker 07-06-2006 09:44 AM

double post

Nevada gambling is much larger than Atlantic City by a long shot.

I suspect Nevada has their act together on budgeting.

Lucky for me I don't have to worry about a younger crowd. A lot of babes go for older guys, even nerds and geeks like me :thumbsup

czarina 07-06-2006 10:43 AM

They do, thanks largely to tax revenue from casinos. If they didn't have their act together, the absolute last thing they would do is shut down the casinos. They'd shut down the hospitals and firestations before they'd close the casinos.

Young 07-06-2006 10:48 AM

LOL what the fuck does a state budget have to do with Vegas?

"John Doe trips and falls...will the President be next"

AdultSearchGURU 07-06-2006 11:06 AM

The scary thing is that the governor is in fact not a conservative but a liberal. Hence the article reads democratic governor. I agree why post an article you did not read. Second Las Vegas has nothing to with what is happening in New Jersey. Its a power play situation the gov wants to increase sales tax from 6% to 7% to help the budget deficit. State does not want to pass it so the Governor shuts all state funding down until an agreement is made. How does the casion play into this The state employs the Gamings Commsission who oversees gambling. I hope this sheds some light but you probably will reply without reading my post.

Does your mind actually function or do you just spit out knee jerk reactions to everything anyone says? Which republicans exactly was the thread starter trying to say are "evil".

Don't answer that, you don't have the mental capacity. All you're capable of doing is spitting out grade 1 style insults and then attempting to cover up your lameness by posted a bunch of laughing faces.

Just shut the fuck up and go back to cleaning toilets or whatever you do over there are SI with you 5% ownership.

So what did you actually verify?:1orglaugh

Please don't dig yourself a deeper hole. Just admit you thought it would be cool to have a bullshit thread title to get more views and leave it at that.
