Is it just me, or does having the word "free" in your porn promotions seem stupid?

I just can not honestly understand why anyone who is trying to sell memberships to a porn paysite would want to even come close to using the word free, unless it was some sort of free trial or free signup that was being offered

but why would a site that thrives on selling memberships to paysites want to title their site "free porn pics" or "free porn movies"

seems like you are instantly attracting the lowest common denominator right from the get go

Dagwolf 07-07-2006 02:14 AM

It's mainly good for traffic traders, and for free trials/email signups. But you just said that.

because there are a lot of horny fuckers typing "free porn pics" into google.

yes, these surfers are initially looking for free but sooner or later they find something they need.

just doesn't seem like a very intelligent traffic filtering system to me

I would rather have less traffic that is much more targetted than burn bandwidth waiting for that 1 dude out of 3000 to buy something

I guess it all depends on the webmaster though, some people like quantity, some like quality

ravo 07-07-2006 07:36 AM

I agree Jace. I've never really understood that either. Why say "Free Pics" when you're trying to get someone to pay for it? I think it's a case of some webmasters not thinking when they are creating promos.

It depends on the site. Dating sites allow you to enter your details for free and browse profiles, but you pay to play in the end. The use of the word free gets the foot in the door though.

read what I posted

I was excluding places that allowed free sign ups...obviously, if you are promoting a free signup, then the word free would be a benefit

go to google and type in "free porn" and check out the amount of results that are webmasters trying to sell porn site memberships

Tdog 07-07-2006 07:45 AM

Free and porn together has always been a top search.

CamsLord 07-07-2006 07:47 AM

because "free porn" gets the clicks

fallenmuffin 07-07-2006 07:49 AM

Personally I don't use "FREE" I've thought about it but I just don't want the traffic thats going to come from "free". At the end of the day it's stupid but I guess, as they say, "whatever gets them through the door"

My bad.

Ok, another reason possibly even though I dont adhere to it. Use the word free to get a click through boost to the tour in the hope that there is something on the tour that really grabs them by the balls. Poor reasoning but Im thinking of why people may do it?

No wait fuck it, it is bad marketing.

Basic_man 07-07-2006 07:52 AM

It's called a "blind link" :P

Jace 07-07-2006 08:02 AM

too many damn people trying to "get people through the door" and not enough people putting the appropriate signs above the door is why I look at my paysite stats and cringe sometimes...LOL

I love looking at my stats and seeing someone with a 0:3000 ratio and doing some research on where their traffic is coming from, only to discover their site is called "FREE **** **** PORN" and everywhere you look it says "check out this free porn" "we love free porn"

v4 media 07-07-2006 08:11 AM

If a site has trailer on the tour why not say on the gallery.. checkout the free vid here.. gets eyballs to the site.. one or two may sign up.. bandwidth is cheap.

It does seem stupid, but I get sales because of that word.
