All presidents were crap!

Pathfinder 06-05-2002 06:22 PM

Bad Acts:

JFK sold out the people involved in the Bay of Pigs invasion. Even though it was Eisenhower that first sent troops to Vietnam, JFK got us too deeply involved.

Ronald Reagan entered office with the nation having less than a trillion dollar national debt (which took all of our history to reach that point). Reagan leaves office eight years later with a four trillion dollar national debt.

Johnson for not having the sense to see the mistake JFK had made and withdrawing from Vietnam when he took over the office.

Nixon for being Nixon.

In my lifetime, have to say Reagan. Built such a deficit it was unbelievable.

Best, Clinton, he eliminated it.

salsbury 06-05-2002 06:31 PM

best: the US's first president john hanson. only 'cause he was the first though.

worst: i dunno. of the two presidents that've been around since i've been old enough to vote, they're both equally iffy. ask me again after i've seen another 5 or so go through office.

Our country never had better unemployment numbers, and he erased the Republican deficit.

Any connection between your reality and mine is purely coincidental.

The gun laws are a joke his entire 8 years in office was a waste of time, the only thing he managed was a $20 million dollar blow job. The deficit was being take care of before he came to office.
I love my reality stay away from it

He is the man, he already done more then Clinton has in his entire 8 years in office. I will always remember the first time he went to New York after the 911 events and gave that speech with the crowd yelling USA, USA.
I don't want to pin the 911 tradegy on anyone but bin laden should have been taking care of along time ago. It should of been war when those terroist crashed that boat in our NAVY ship.

not another one of these guys.

reagan deficits got us out of the worst economy since the depression. (brought on by carter) anyone remember gas rationing and 17% mortgage rates and huge unemployment #s? the strong economy put in place by reagan and continued by bush sr. made the dope from hope look great.
Its still amazing that so many americans could have been stupid enough to look at Bush sr. and Clinton and say,"I'll take the dumb one"

FATPad 06-05-2002 07:51 PM

Lest anyone forget, Congress controls the purse strings. To get a more accurate view of who did what with deficits look at who controlled Congress during the different time periods.

When Clinton took office you worked at McDonalds. Now you're almost rich. No matter how many times you try to tell yourself otherwise, you know the truth.

Mega dittos.

Actually - Im not a liberal at all - The hippies piss me off too.
I think there should be a 3rd "In The Middle" party
that would offset the left wing hippies and rightwing nazis :BangBang:

baddog,
i have a master degree in politic sciences, but even without that its not hard to understand that someone with the brain of a chicken cannot be a good president...
anyway all the people around him would not let him take any decision....he even needs them to tie his shoe laces....:Graucho

Sly_RJ 06-05-2002 10:01 PM

I love when the best reasons for a President being terrible consist of "he's a Nazi", "he can't tie his shoe", "he's a stupid moron". No President can be "stupid" or they wouldn't be a President.

Come on guys, back up your hatred for once.

political science as taught by the communists in France? sorry dude, I would not accept anything that the French had to say about American politics today or yesterday. I am going to bow out of this discussion though because I am afraid too many of you have been brainwashed by your daddies, and some of you I respect too much to get into pointing out the errors of your ways.

Suffice it to say, I remember quite well what Nixon did to our country before Carter had a chance to do anything, and I have lived in CA all my life and saw what Reagan did to our State while he was Governor. The ONLY reason he was elected President is because Iran held our hostages in their successful destruction of the Carter Administration. Not saying the peanut farmer was the sharpest tool in the shed, but any Democrat would have won that year after the Republican debacle of Reagan/Nixon/Agnew/Ford

Obviously, you guys are too young to remember the facts, or were never taught them in school.

Hey that's an interesting statue on that little island over there.

(look where I'm from)

I'd say because there are typically two ranges to the types of people who live here, left and right, that you do infact require a continual revolvement of power between the two. Too much either way and the scales tip up. I personally believe that a democracy with only one "they're the best" party isn't really.

My personal opinion is that the current pres. comes across as a somewhat likeable idiot who obviously isn't because he's surrounded himself with an incredibly capable cabinet, and er... managed to win an election er... kind of.

The third largest single expenditure of todays federal budget is paying the interest on Reagan's legacy of increasing the national debt by three trillion dollars in an eight year period.

For those of you that stated Congress controls the purse strings: The President has veto power and a Presidential veto is very difficult to overide in Congress.

Clinton left office with a balanced budget now Bush has taken us back into deficit spending in less than a two year period.

The President can only veto what is proposed to him. Balancing the budget is easy when Congress is presenting you with balanced budgets.

FATPad 06-05-2002 10:59 PM

p.s. :)

I'm not saying one side or the other is responsible for any of this solely.

But saying Clinton saved us and Reagan screwed us is such a simpleton view of the world it's not funny.

During Reagan's presidency, the congress was democractic controlled. If they were so worried about deficit spending, congress merely had to pass balanced budgets. It didn't.

The original balanced budgets during Clinton's administration were passed by Republican controlled congresses. He had no choice but to pass them or look like a bigger idiot than he already was.

Clinton was great and saved us and Reagan was horrible and fucked us is way too simple of a view to be even close to reality.

Clinton was great and saved us and Reagan was horrible and fucked us is way too simple of a view to be even close to reality.

It is a simpleton view to blame everything, or give credit for everything, on a single man, but it has always been this way. What ever happens during an administration there is but a single man at the helm. "It happened on his watch."

Each administration prepares a budget and proposes it to Congress. Congress prepares its own budget and then tries to resolve the differences between the two budgets.

If you recall Reagan played to the people and the people liked Reagan because of his affability. This popularity helped Reagan to get, for the most part, his budgets approved, because congressman know who butters their bread. His budgets were heavy with deficit spending.

Politics are very complicated and confusing, but the fact remains the one at the helm, gets the credit, or the critisism, and a President does have veto power over any proposal by congress. Congress with a 60% majority can overide the veto.

Some blame the man, some blame congress, some blame one or the other polictical parties, when things go south.

wildjohn999 06-05-2002 11:39 PM

Best: Reagan, Bush Sr., Bush Jr.

Absolute Worst: Clinton - Should have been impeached from day one, for making welfare accessible to low to no income drug users, signed the fucking 1994 Crime Bill which took away our constitutional right to full access to the second amendment, loosened resitrictions on food stamps - before his reign the only thing that could be bought with food stamps were WIC approved foods like milk, cheese, bread - Now food stamps can be used for everything under the super market's roof this includes lottery tickets, cigarettes, and fucking steak and cakes (WTF should poor people eat steak and cake? They are fucking poor! When you see an obese welfare parasite the reason is because they can now buy frozen pizzas and steak with your hard earned tax dollars!), modified the look of food stamps(food stamps don't come in booklets anymore, they are now on govt issued check cards, so welfare recipients aren't embarassed at check out!), restricted environmental standards which in turn shot up fossil fuel prices, listened to his wife and tried to setup a universal health care system (great higher taxes and shitty HMO style healthcare to boot, look at the condition of Canada's health system, most of those canucks want to come here so they can live, because you have to get on a fucking waiting list in order to get care even for emergencies.), and his wife wants to be president.

Personally, I love it when republicans are in office because taxes are lower especially here in Virginia(Gillmore tried to repeal our car tax but Warner put it back in) which always means more money in my pocket. Democrats on the other hand treat people like they are stupid and need the help of the Govt. to live, why do you think they favor so many Social programs, plus they have a tendancy to put in a lot of ridiculous regulations in the Civil Service sectors which fucks with my job.

So Basically, Republicans rule and sorry for the long post.

Here's the GFY summary: Format c:, Newbies suck/are stupid, free porn hurts the industry, tgps suck, cogent sucks, go fuck yourself.

Wildjohn - your faithful civil servant.
